NJ Swimming Gold Championships A Big Success

George Soutter

We had a fantastic finish to our 24-25 Short Course Season at this year’s NJ Swimming Gold Championships at Rutgers this past weekend. It was an exciting meet, and was even attended by 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte who signed autographs in the crowd. The meet had hundreds of the top swimmers from within our LSC going head to head for some fast swimming!  Our 7 qualifying swimmers came prepared for business, scoring in 9 events and helping NJB to finish 23rd of the 45 attending clubs.

Congrats to Rylee Bambara, Reese Berg, Abby Czinkota, Julia Dutzi, Ty Hollar, Caroline Turner, and John Wintermute for qualifying for this very fast meet!

The meet format consisted of Timed Finals for our 12&Unders and Prelims/Finals for the 13&Overs. Top Place (scoring) swims were earned by Reese Berg (6th in the 200 Breast, 12th in the 200 IM, 8th in the 400 IM); Julia Dutzi (7th in the 100 Back, 13th in the 100 Fly, 11th in the 100 IM, 13th in the 50 Back, 10th in the 50 Fly); and Caroline Turner (13th in the 50 Free).

Highlighting some solid training this season, and a successful taper, our 29 splashes resulted in some great swims including 13 Personal Bests by Rylee Bambara (-0.47 in her 100 Free, -0.86 in her 200 Breast); Reese Berg (-2.60 in her 200 Breast, -0.18 in her 200 IM, -3.34 in her 400 IM); Julia Dutzi (-2.80 in her 100 Back, -3.31 in her 100 Fly, -1.52 in her 100 IM, -0.09 in her 50 Back, -2.55 in her 50 Fly); Caroline Turner (-2.92 in her 50 Fly, -0.08 in her 50 Free); and John Wintermute (-4.51 in his 200 Fly).

A special shout out to Julia Dutzi for swimming in two new club records in the 100 Back (1:17.46) and 100 Fly (1:20.26)!

Great job by all! A reminder that sign-ups for our Annual Awards Banquet are going on, and also don’t forget to register for Long Course and keep that success going!

Enjoy the down time, and see you soon!
