METERSMANIA!
Our swimmers hit the pool at the Jersey Aquatic Center in New Providence this weekend for some fun long course swimming, joining hundreds of swimmers from 17 other teams. While many of our swimmers were experienced at long course, we had some newbies experiencing this format for the first time.
A quick reminder regarding times. ‘Long Course’ is a 50 meter course, as opposed to ‘Short Course’ which is 25 yards. The difference in yards to meters, along with the benefit of more walls to push off of in short course, make comparing times between the two courses difficult. Conversion factors are embedded in swim platforms (like TeamUnify), but they are not always exact. It is also usually easier for a swimmer to get faster times in short course than long course, so comparing a converted short course seed time to an actual long course swim, that swim may/usually appears slower.
Having said that, comparing the swimmers’ best long course times to their swims this weekend, of our 45 splashes 15 were first-time LC swims, and 22 were Personal Bests! Many of those were significant drops, like Rylee Bambara’s 100 Back (-5.52); Reese Berg’s 200 Breast (-5.74) and 200 IM (-7.10); Channing Muller’s 100 Back (-7.27) and 100 Free (-5.28); Briella Selby’s 200 Free (-48.77!) and 50 Breast (-7.25); Sam Taylor’s 100 Back (-5.07), 100 Free (-6.64), and 200 Free (-12.90); and Autumn Wintermute’s 100 Back (-16.83) and 50 Free (-8.23); just to name some. Some of these swims came very close to LC Gold times! To check this season’s standards, see here.
Despite having only 11 swimmers in attendance, we garnered 12 scoring finishes, including Rylee Bambara’s 6th Place finish in the 100 Back; Reese Berg’s 6th Place in her 100 Breast and 3rd in the 200 Breast; and Ty Hollar’s 4th place in his100 Back, 5th in the 200 Back, and 6th in the 200 Breast; and more!
Congrats to all of our swimmers! Next up, MAY Bring the Heat on 6/1!
