The Westfield YMCA Devilfish swim team is holding tryouts for NEW SWIMMERS to participate in the Fall/Winter 2025/2026 season.
We have open spots for swimmers between the ages of 6 and 18. Age for YMCA meet season is determined by the swimmer's age on December 1st 2025.
Each age group will do a typical practice, including warmup, some drill work, and a short set, under a coach's supervision. During this, swimmers will be asked to swim/attempt all four strokes: butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, and freestyle.
In addition, there will be timed swims as follows:
- 6 to 8 year old swimmers will swim 25 yards of freestyle, 25 yards of backstroke, and an optional 25 of breaststroke or butterfly. They will start in the water or off the block/side.
- 9 and 10 year old swimmers will swim 50 yards of freestyle, 50 backstroke, and 50 of either butterfly or breaststroke.
- 13 to 18 year old swimmers will swim 100 yards of freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 100 of either butterfly or breaststroke.
The age for short course YMCA season is determined by the swimmer’s age as of December 1, 2025. Swimmers who “age up” on or before 12/1/2025 must try out for the next age group.
Should your child be selected for one of our teams, the information provided at checkout will be used to create an account in Team Unify, the team's website. Team Unify only allows one parent primary access. The information listed below will be set as the primary account holder.
