Devilfish Set Five NJ YMCA13&O State Meet Records!

The Westfield Area Y Devilfish Swim Team excelled with multiple record breaking swims at the13 and over  NJ YMCA State Championships held at Franklin and Marshall College, March 9-11.  The 15-18 girls set five Y State Meet records! Caroline Baldwin and Carly Whitmer each set two individual 15-18 records. Baldwin won the 100 Back (56.11) and 50 Free (23.64). Both times reset the Devilfish record board as well.  Carly Whitmer won the 100 Fly (56.01) and the 200 Fly (2:05:13) setting Y state meet records and besting her WY record times.  Baldwin, Abby Pires, Whitmer, and Ellie Reinhardt teamed up for a win in the 15-18 400 Medley Relay, a Y State Meet and team record time (3:52:26). Four swimmers became new National Team qualifiers: Audrey Bangs (200 Back), Caroline Basil (100 Back), Aidan Donadio (100 Breast) and Nicandro Donadio (200 Breast) which bring the Devilfish National Team to 18 swimmers.

Other top 15-18 swims include a 3^rdplace finish for Baldwin in 200 Back (a WY record time of 2:03:19). Baldwin finished 13^thin 200 Free. Pires placed 10th in 100 Breast. Reinhardt touched 13th and Caitlin Carroll placed 15th (1000 Free). Whitmer, Loren Ball, Reinhardt, and Baldwin placed 6^thin the 15-18 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:33:97,  a new team record;  Allie McBrearty, Pires, Erika Daniel and Ball touched 8^th(Girls Open 200 Medley Relay)and Jackie Joffe, Carroll, Audrey Bangs, Lauren Schmeider  finished 13^th(Girls Open 200 Free Relay). Will Beckett, Luke McGrory, Brennan Haley and Matt Daniel touched 8^th(Boys 400 Free Relay). Beckett placed 7^thin the Boys 15-18 50 Free and anchored the 9^thplace Boys Open 200 Medley Relay with Max Shin, Alex Bond and Dan Jones. Haley touched 13^thin 200 Back and teamed up with Bond, Jones and Matt Daniel for a 9^thplace finish in the 15-18 400 Medley Relay.  The Open 200 Free Relay team of Kevin Oster,  Bond,  Jones and Nicandro Donadio placed 12^th. For the 13-14 Girls, Caroline Basil placed 4^th(100 Back) and 7^th(200 Back), setting new team records. Gwyn Devin placed 15^th(100 Fly).  The Medley Relay team of Basil, Audrey Picut, Devin, and Courtney Day placed 8^thand the 200 Free Relay  team of Picut, Devin, Day, and Basil finished 13^th. Representing the 13-14 Boys, Kevin Clauss placed 9^th(100 Breast) and 14^th(200 Breast). The Boys Medley Relay team of Clauss, Stefan Crigler, Ryan Daniel and Lucas Fan placed 15^th.
