Devilfish host 48th Annual Awards Banquet

The team hosted its 48th Annual Awards and Senior Recognition Banquet on April 29 at The Gran Centurions in Clark. Over 300 swimmers, parents and coaches enjoyed dinner, dancing and an awards presentation to celebrate the 2011-12 season and to honor the graduating seniors: Loren Ball, Alex Bond, Emily Clauss, Brennan Haley, Krysta Huber, Kelly Kalis, Maeve Maloney, Kevin Oster, Abby Pires, Emily Smith, Brooke Sweeney, Matt Trinkle, Katie Yamano, and Tim York.  Head Coach Brian Guidera and his coaching staff recognized many outstanding performances by presenting awards to five individual and six relay team record breakers, and twenty YMCA SC National Meet qualifiers. In addition, the following swimmers received specialty awards: Carly Whitmer and Brennan Haley--Perry Coultas Award for Outstanding Swimmer; Amy West and Luke McGrory-- Frank Ketchum Award for Winning Attitude; Abby Pires and Matt Daniel--Bob Wright Award for Leadership; Jamie Thomas and Lucas Fan--Ken Lyng Award for Excellence in Commitment, Attendance and Work Ethic; Mary Weber and Steven Warren--Most Improved Junior Swimmers; Caitlin Carroll and Kevin Clauss--Most Improved Senior Swimmers; Loren Ball and Emily Smith--Director’s Award for Best Example of the Y’s Character Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility; Grace Brown and Barney Veres-- Bart Thomas Award for Team Player; Caroline Baldwin and Griff Morgan--Most Valuable Swimmer Award. The evening concluded with a video montage created by Bill Beckett and Simon Lee highlighting events of the year in and out of the pool including the Devilfish Classic, Dual and Invitational Meets, Y Nationals, the December training trip to Arizona, and social events.  Congratulations to the McGann family, winners of this year’s raffle items: Dr. Dre Beats and an IPhone. Thank you to all families who generously participated! All proceeds from the raffle will be used for future Devilfish team events.
