LONG COURSE (LC) SEASON RECAP

The Devilfish team has concluded the summer long course (LC) season. During LC, swimmers adjust to swimming a 50 meter or ‘long course’ instead of the traditional 25 yard course.  For many swimmers, LC serves as an opportunity to stay in shape, but for others it also provides some challenging summer competition. The team competed in five meets held at Rutgers University’s Sonny Werblin Pool. The competition began June 27 at the MYM Summer Challenge Meet, where the Devilfish showed improved times and six swimmers placed in the Top 8: Ryan Daniel, 3^rd(Senior 50m Fly);  Michael Mizus, 3^rd(Senior 50m Breast); Stephen Husch, 3^rd(Senior 100m Breast) and 5^th(100m Free);  Matt Daniel, 4^th(Senior 100m Fly); Alex Prystupa, 5^th(Senior 50m Breast) and Colin Daniel, 7^th(Senior 50m Breast). On July 1 the Devilfish competed at the MYM Summer Sunshine Meet. Eleven swimmers placed in the Top 8: Husch, 1^st(15&O 50m Back and 100m Fly), 3^rd(100m Back); Lucas Fan, 1^st(13-14 50m Back), 3^rd(100m Breast); Caroline Basil, 1^st (13-14 100m Free) and 4^th(400m Free); Ellie Reinhardt, 2^nd(15&O 200m Free) and 7^th(400m Free); Nick Youssef, 2^nd(13-14 50m Fly); Mizus, 2^nd(13-14 50m Breast) and 7^th(100m Breast); Aidan Donohue, 4^th(11-12 50m Free and 50m Breast), 7^th(100m Breast); Prystupa, 5^th(50m Fly),6^th(100m Breast) and 7^th(50m Free); Grace Brown, 7^th(10&U 50m Fly) and 8^th(100m Breast); Julia Diamantopoulos, 8^th(15&O 50m Free). The Devilfish were well represented at the 12&Under LC Silver/Bronze Champs July 13-15 and at the 13&Over LC Silver/Bronze Champs July 20-22. Donohue, Caitlin Carroll, R. Daniel, Diamantopoulos, Fan, Husch, Jesse Liu, Griff Morgan, Tommy Pyle, Reinhardt, Hermes Suen, and Youssef swam personal best times.  Top finishers include Fan, 1^st(13-14 100m Free) and 5^th(200m Breast) and Husch, 5^th(15&O 200m Fly). Twenty-one swimmers qualified for the NJ LC Junior Olympic Championships held July 26-29. Placing in the Top 16: Caroline Baldwin, 2^nd(15&O 100m Back) and 4^th*tie (50m Free); Basil, 5^th(13-14 100m Back); WIll Beckett, 9^th(15&O 50m Free); Husch, 10^th(15&O 100m Breast) and 12^th(100m Fly); Kylie Bangs, 13^th(15&O 100m Back); Donohue, 15^th*tie(11-12 50m Breast. The Womens 400m Medley Relay team of Baldwin, Meg Kaveney, Erika Daniel, and Reinhardt finished 11^thand the Mens 400m Medley Relay team of Husch, Aram Barmakian, M. Daniel and Beckett placed 12^th. Both relays recorded new LC team records. In addition to the two relays our team reset 17 individual LC team records. Congratulations to Caroline Baldwin, Caroline Basil, Will Beckett, Caitlin Carroll, Stephen Husch, Ellie Reinhardt and Carly Whitmer.
