Devilfish Host Another Classic!

The Westfield Area Y Devilfish Swim Team hosted the 17th Annual DEVILFISH CLASSIC Invitational Swim Meet (DFC) at the Wallace Pool on October 14. Meet Director Peggy Oster praised the coaches and the DFC committee chairpeople for all their organization and hard work. She was pleased the meet ran smoothly and was once again a success. The DFC not only provides the Devilfish and visiting teams with an opportunity to compete early in the short course swim season, but also serves as the team's biggest fund raising effort. Proceeds from the meet are used to support team expenses all season long. In the lanes, Devilfish swimmers achieved numerous personal best times and set nine meet records. Team result highlights include the following first place finishes by age group:

8&Under Girls: Rebecca Montero (50yd free, 25yd back), Alyssa Hitzel (100yd IM) .

8&Under Boys: TJ Walsh (25yd free),Roan Baker(50yd free, 25yd breast), Aidan Trenery (25yd back, 25yd fly, 100yd IM).

9-10 Girls: Julia McGann (50yd Free, 100yd IM). 9-10 Boys: Andrew Kapadia (100yd back).

11-12 Girls: Muriel Maloney (100yd back, 100yd IM--meet record), Emma Conlon (50yd fly).

11-12 Boys: Eric Bebel (50yd free--meet record, 100yd free), Matthew Barmakian (50yd back), Rory McGovern (100 yd back), Ryan Bebel (50yd breast, 50yd fly, 100yd IM)

13-14 Girls: Gwyn Devin (100yd breast, 100yd fly), Caroline Basil(200yd IM--meet record), Jamie Thomas (200 breast).

13-14 Boys: Ryan Daniel (50yd free,100yd free, 200yd free), Jesse Liu (200yd back, 100yd back, 100yd fly), Lucas Fan (100yd breast).

15&Over Girls: Lauren Schmeider (50yd free), Caitie Collins (200yd back), Erika Daniel (100yd breast), Caroline Baldwin (200yd Free--meet record, 100yd fly), Carly Whitmer(100yd back, 200yd IM--meet record), Caitlin Carroll (100yd free), Meredith Bagger (200yd breast).

15&Over Boys: Will Beckett (50yd free--meet record), Matt Daniel(100yd Free), Stephen Husch(100yd breast, 200yd IM--meet record, 100 yd fly--meet record), Jack Rose (100yd back), Kevin Clauss (200yd breast--meet record), Sean Beattie (200yd free).
