Coaches and Directors
Shannon grew up in Poland, Ohio and began swimming at the age of 5 for the Poland Swim Club and YMCA Neptunes. In high school she swam for the Neptunes, FAST, and Poland Seminary High School. She went on to swim at Duquesne University, specializing in distance free and distance fly. She taught lessons for many years at the YMCA. In addition to coaching for Penguin Swimming, she is also the coach of the Logan Ducks (YSL). She now lives in Youngstown with her husband and two teenage boys. In her freetime she enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with family.
Kelsey was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia where she swam competitively from age 7 under Bill Forrester. Throughout her career, she went on to qualify and compete at Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals, and the Olympic Trials in both 2008 and 2012. She received a swimming scholarship at Auburn University where she swam from 2008-2012 and competed at conference championships. After graduating with a major in Psychology, she returned to Savannah and coached for her former club team, Georgia Coastal Aquatics Team (GCAT) under coach Bill Forrester. She then moved to Macon, Georgia for graduate school and coached for Swim Macon (SMAC) under head coaches Lee Stockslager and Jason Swaim, as well as for Stratford Academy for one season. Following this, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she coached for Swim Atlanta (SWAT) under Andy Griffin. Kelsey has experience with coaching all age groups and developmental levels, and has assisted swimmers with accomplishing various level of goals, including state qualifying standards, junior nationals, senior nationals, and acquiring college scholarships.
Kelsey completed her doctorate in psychology with a focus on children, and she plans to earn her license and begin practicing in the area. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys spending time with her family and friends and playing with her two dogs.
Brad took over as Head Swimming and Diving Coach at Youngstown State University in the summer of 2019. He has done an amazing job with the YSU Men’s and Women’s teams, and we are lucky to have him on staff. Brad coaches our Elite College group with his YSU assistant Kelsey Reagan.
Smith previously served as the Head Women's and Men's Swimming and Diving Coach at Binghamton for five years before coming to YSU in the summer of 2019. He also spent two campaigns as the Head Coach at Western Colorado, and he was an assistant at Maine from 2009-2012.
Brad is a 2007 graduate of Vermont where he was a 4-year letter winner for the Catamounts. Following his college career he spent two years as the Director of Women’s Swimming Operations at Vermont and also was the men’s club team coach.
Brian swam for the Warren Harding Raiders and was both a District and State Qualifier all 4 years. He went to Westminster College where he continued his education and swimming career in the Butterfly and IM. Brian was also a National Qualifier and 7 time All American. He is the youngest inductee into the Warren Sports Hall of Fame.
Hi! My name is Ireland Parker and this is my third year coaching for Penguins. I swam for 14 years at FAST in the summer, 14 years at the Neptunes in the winter, and 4 years for Boardman High School. I have also coached for FAST for the last 2 summers, with 10 years of being a volunteer coach before that. I am a junior at Youngstown State University and I’m majoring in exercise science. I’m so happy to be back at Penguins and I can’t wait to get started working with all my swimmers!
New to the Youngstown area, Jacki has been looking for a new swim team to call her home, and has found one with Penguin Swimming! A swim coach for 3 years, with 10 years of prior swimming experience, Jacki has coached all ages and skill levels: from club teams to USA teams. She feels it’s important to have a strong foundation in technique, while still making swimming fun. As a swimmer, she was a sprinter and butterflier, and enjoys teaching butterfly and diving the most. A high school English teacher by day, Jacki is excited to continue to help kids learn and have new experiences through swimming
Amelia grew up outside of Nashville, TN and graduated High school in Bowling Green, KY where she swam competitively for Southern Kentucky Swim Club and Greenwood High school.
She started swimming when she was 12 and started getting involved in teaching swim lessons when she was 14. She taught group lessons for Race Aquatics, SKY Swim Club, and Total Fitness Connection in Bowling Green. She enjoys working with kids of all ages and recently taught almost 400 swim lessons during the most recent summer.
She was a head coach for 3 years at Indian Hills Country Club where she helped lead the team to win 23 consecutive South Central championships, the oldest Swim conference in the nation, as well as a swim coach for Southern Kentucky Swim Club. She is currently a sophomore on Youngstown State’s Division I Swim Team and is studying marketing. She will graduate in the spring of 2027 with her bachelor’s and in the spring of 2028 with her Masters in Business Administration.
When she is not involved with swimming or coaching she is passionate about digital marketing and currently helps run the YSU Swim & Dive social medias and recently just got an internship with the YSU Athletics marketing team.
“Hi, my name is Abigail Doss. I am originally from central Pennsylvania. I swam for NC State and Bucknell University where I specialized in distance, IM and breaststroke. During my college career, I swam the 400m Free at Olympic Trials, swam at the U.S. Open, and broke the Bucknell University record in the 200 breaststroke. I also am in the top 10 in Bucknell swim and dive history in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 and 400 IM. After I graduated, I coached one year at Randolph-Macon as their assistant coach. This summer, I joined an amazing coaching staff as an assistant coach at Youngstown State University where I will be coaching the distance crew. Go Guins!”
Nicole grew up in Howland, Ohio and this is her second year coaching for Penguin Swimming. She began swimming at the age of 5 and swam for Penguin swimming for 13 years, Warren Olympic club for 12 years, Applewood Swim Club for one year and Howland High School for 4 years. As a swimmer she specialized in breaststroke and IM. At her time at Howland High School she held the 100 breaststroke record and currently holds records for the 200 IM, 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. She also was part of the Applewood YSL 200 freestyle relay record team . She is currently a sophomore in Youngstown State University enrolled in the dietetics program. She is passionate about nutrition and plans on becoming a sports dietitian to help provide athletes with nutrition guidance to optimize their health performance and recovery. She enjoys working with swimmers of all ages and is excited to continue coaching and sharing her knowledge and experience to help each athlete grow both in and out of the pool.
