PARENT AND SWIMMER CODE OF CONDUCT
Penguin Swimming is a club team affiliated with Lake Erie Swimming. This club expects the following from the swimmers, parents, coaches:
Hard Work * Good Sportsmanship Integrity * Teamwork * Professionalism Respect for Others
The following Code of Conduct is a general outline of the behavior participating swimmers, coaches, and parents are expected to follow at all times. The Code of Conduct cannot address all possible situations, and therefore, the coaches and dispute resolution committee have discretion in disciplining behavior that is disruptive and/or unlawful, whether displayed at a practice, meet, or other swim function.
AS A SWIMMER, I PROMISE THAT:
1. I will listen to the coaches, and I will not disrupt the team meetings, practices, or other swim functions.
2. I will not use profanity.
3. I will not physically or verbally abuse another swimmer, coach, official, parent or volunteer;
4. I will display respect and professionalism to all involved in the sport. I will not engage in any unsportsmanlike conduct, such as taunting, with any opponent, team member, coach, official, parent, volunteer, or spectator.
5. I will not deliberately misuse or damage equipment, facilities, or the personal property of other swimmers.
6. I will not use illegal drugs, tobacco, or alcohol.
7. I will follow the rules of the Club or other facility hosting the meet or other swim function.
I understand that failure to comply with these rules will subject me to immediate contact of my parents and disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by the coach on deck. I understand that failure to comply with these rules may result in disciplinary action, included, but not limited to the following: a verbal warning, removal from practice(s) and/or meet(s), suspension or expulsion from the team. We are fortunate to have highly experienced coaches working to develop our children into better swimmers, and more importantly, respected members of the community.
As parents, it is absolutely essential that we give the coaches the respect and authority they deserve to run the swim teams at each of the Clubs.
AS A PARENT OF A SWIMMER, I PROMISE THAT:
1. I will support the values of Good Sportsmanship, Hard Work, Integrity, Respect for Others, Professionalism, and Teamwork during practices, meets and other swimming events and in my dealings with all coaches, swimmers, officials, volunteers, and parents.
2. I will not coach, discipline, or instruct the team or any swimmer at practices or meets (from the stands or any other area) or interfere with the coaches on the pool deck.
3. I will demonstrate good sportsmanship by maintaining control and will conduct myself in a manner that earns the respect of my child, other swimmers, parents, coaches, officials, and volunteers at all practices and meets. I understand that criticizing, name-calling, use of abusive language or gestures directed towards coaches, officials, volunteers, Penguin Board Members, and any participating swimmer and/or parent of a swimmer is unsportsmanlike, is not permissible, and may result in disciplinary action.
4. I will maintain self control at all times and remember the following: a. Swimmers - Swim b. Coaches - Coach c. Officials - Officiate d. Parents - Parent
5. I will discuss any concerns that arise during a meet with the designated meet representative or the coach of my swim club at an appropriate break so as not to interfere with the other swimmers' performances and time with the coaches on deck.
6. I will support the swimmers, coaches, and other parents with positive communication and actions.
7. I understand that officials who judge the meets are volunteers. Although I may not agree with a decision made by an official during a meet or other swim competition, I will direct questions or concerns to the coach of my swim club or the meet representative at an appropriate break so as not to interfere with the other swimmers' performances and time with the coaches on deck. I understand that failure to comply with these rules may result in disciplinary action, included, but not limited to the following: a verbal warning, removal from practice(s) and/or meet(s).
