STYLE DESCRIPTIONS
CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Creative Movement is a form of Dance that combines movement and artistic expression without the requirement of extensive training. Creative movement focuses on the development of motor skills and emotional expression. Creative Dance allows for variation amongst the skill level of its participants, affording opportunities for those of a wide age range. (Ages 2- 4) Creative Dance is an effective holistic approach to promote movement development and improve social and cognitive functioning. Our 45-minute classes focus on rhythm and basic technique with ballet as the foundation. Music will range from classical to follow-along pre-school/school-age music, keeping your toddler engaged! This Creative Movement class allows kids to play through movement, socialize and develop friendships. Parents are encouraged to participate with their child if/when needed. Props include scarves, musical instruments, balance beams, ribbons, gymnastics bar & rings, and much more.
BALLET
Ballet classes provide students with a high standard of training and help to build strong self-esteem and confidence. The program focuses on the study of classical technique through barre and centre exercises, as well as rhythm and free movement dance. From beginner to advanced classes, students are formally trained while being taught the value of technique, discipline, and honouring tradition. As Ballet is the foundation of many dance styles, we recommend that every student take Ballet classes to develop poise, good posture, proper body alignment, and graceful movement.Ballet dancers enrolled in this classes will work to perfecting technique while developing coordination between the mind and body. Ballet requires dancers to channel their energy in a positive way, and is an excellent dance form for both male and female students.
JAZZ
Jazz classes involve a high energy warm up, followed by exercises to stretch and tone muscles to develop proper alignment of the skeletal structure. The class practices Jazz technique and skills in the centre and across the floor. Jazz dance has evolved over the past few years and now includes a vast range of styles.Jazz tends to be a faster paced dance form performed to popular music, new and old. It is a great way to help your coordination, and build your cardiovascular levels in an energetic and performance filled setting. Jazz is a fun, upbeat class combining technical elements and creativity, all while increasing flexibility, strength and musicality.
ACROBATICS (ACRO)
If your child loves dance and gymnastics, then this class is for them! Acrobatic dance is a fusion style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Dancers will concentrate on balance, flexibility, strength, control and dance skills. Acro students will work on strengthening their minds and bodies to perform a variety of skills and exercises such as head/hand stands, back bridges, cartwheels, and more. Dancers will also work in pairs and groups, learning group tricks and stunts. These dancers will experience the joy of accomplishing hard earned personal goals with the techniques learned in class
TAP
Bring out your dancing shoes and feel the beat! Tap shoes are special dance shoes with metal taps on the bottom used to create different sounds and rhythms. Tap dancers have a special ear for percussion instruments, and are able to follow a variety of music styles with tap techniques. This includes sounds made from toes, heels, brushing, stomping and more. Tap class concentrates on teaching our dancers the ability to communicate dance through sound. It also increases their awareness of rhythm and syncopation. Students will learn basic tap rhythms and combinations which will improve their coordination, musicality and multi-tasking!
BROADWAY
Does your child love acting and dancing? Look no further, as this discipline is a combination of both styles. This class is based on jazz technique and is influenced by the showmanship of Broadway and movie musicals. This class is movement and musicality based, singing is not a component. Musical Theatre is a theatrical style of dance rooted in Broadway Musicals. This class involves training in acting, lip-syncing and dancing to communicate the plot of the song in an entertaining way. This can be dance-heavy, incorporating many different styles, the main one being Jazz. Students will enhance their performance technique by learning the importance of storytelling and amplifying their stage presence.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop classes are filled with high energy fun for all ages! It is a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements. Hip Hop is an urban dance form. It is an ideal way to express one’s creativity. It features self-impressions and the dances come from the soul. This style of dance focuses on rhythm, as well as freestyle and isolated movements. Whacking, Grooving, Locking and Popping are just a few of the many styles within Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop dances can range from being high energy and fast-paced, to slow and groovy. It has evolved into one of the most influential and popular styles of dance. Hip Hop classes is a great dance style to improve flexibility, develop balance, muscle coordination and confidence.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music. Contemporary dancers & choreographers all believe that dancers should have freedom of movement, allowing their bodies to freely express their innermost feelings.
