Coaches and Directors
Coach Jess first joined SHSC as a swimmer in middle school when she moved to Sweet Home. She was a part of the first women's state championship team in 2016 and on the 2017 team as well, alongside Coach Mia. She was the state champion in the 100 backstoke in 2017 and runner up in the 100 fly from 2014-2017. During that time she was a state recorder holder in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.
Coach Jess joined SHSC as an assistant coach in September of 2021 where she coached both the bronze and silver groups. She coached bronze and silver for 2 years developing athletes swimming fundmentals. In March of 2024 she took over SHSC as the new head coach. As head coach she coaches both the gold and platinum groups continuting working on stroke proficiency and swimming competitively.
Her previous coaching experience comes from Courtside Aquatics in Salem from 2018-2021. Where she started as the assistant coach and head age group coach. Then became the Head Coach from 2019-2021.
In her free time Coach Jess likes to spend her time with her family, her husband Josh and daughters Juniper and Jenna.
Mia is a Sweet Home local, and initally was a member of SHSC for many years all throughout elementary, middle and high school. She was a part of the first women's state championship team in 2016, alongside Coach Jess. This was her most memorable moment of her swimming career. She was also on the state championship team the following year in 2017. When Mia was swimming she was a butterflyer and mid-distance freestyler.
Mia joined the SHSC coaching staff in September of 2024. She is the bronze and silver coach and focuses on teaching stroke development. She is very thankful to be a part of our amazing program as a coach!
Coach Mark swam for Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV. During that time, he was a state champion in the 200 Medley Relay and a captain of the men’s team. During the summer after graduation, he swam a combination of San Pipers Club Team and UNLV. He attended UNLV for two years. During those two years, he helped coach with his former swim coach for Cimarron High School in Las Vegas.Coach Mark started playing hockey, where we met his wife, Marianne. Shortly after, he was hired as a police officer for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Along with patrolling neighborhoods, the Las Vegas Strip, COP (Community Oriented Policing) and gang unit, he was an Academy Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics instructor and was a grader for every academy the department had during his career. Coach Mark played on the police hockey team for the Guns and Hoses tournaments and other charity events.In 2004, he and his wife purchased property in Sweet Home, knowing one day they’d retire here. They spent most of their vacations here through the years, where they met wonderful people who were and still are, great friends.Coach Mark retired as a Sergeant from the department in January of 2020 and officially moved to Sweet Home. He finally gave up hockey and focused on swimming again. He has maintained an active lifestyle with daily swims and workouts. Coach Mark lives each day with a smile, humor and love of teaching and mentoring.
