Matt Paige

Head Pre Senior Coach

Email: [email protected]

Matthew Paige has been coaching swimming since 2009, and combined with his personal swim career, he has actively been involved in the sport of swimming since 1994.  As a coach, he thoroughly enjoys the process of guiding swimmers to reach their highest potential as student-athletes. Along the way Matt has worked with numerous talented swimmers and coaches at DART swimming, STAS, and Arden Hills. He is truly a student of the sport and loves to continually find ways to increase his own knowledge and enhance his perspective on how to get faster in the water. As a swimmer Matt qualified for Jr and Sr nationals during high school (representing Arden Hills) and went on to swim collegially at UC Irvine, where he was a scoring member of the 2007 Big West Championship team.

DART swimming (2019 to 2023)

At DART, Matt joined as the lead AG3 coach for Davis; he also assisted with senior programs as well, working with all levels in the competitive side of the team. Primarily, Matt coached swimmers ages 11-13 and was an integral part of the coaching staff that secured ASCA age group top 100 team rankings all 5 years; ranking as high 3rd in nation in 2022. Over the course of his tenure at DART swimming he was fortunate enough to coach swimmers who qualified and secured final swims at Jr nationals, futures, sectionals, Far Westerns, SWAGR, and SNS LSC age group championship meets. 10+ swimmers coached by Matt broke meet records at FW, SWAGR, and SNS champs.

Here are some more recent highlights:

  • Coached and contributed to the development of 2 multiple NAG record holders, Mikayla Tan (11-12 G 200 breast SCY/LCM) and Ayden Tan (10&U B 200 IM SCY/LCM, 100 IM).
  • Coached 7 different USA swimming individual top 10 recipients (ages 10-13) in 2021 and 2022.
  • In 2022 DART obtained 12x 11-12 top 10 relays (girls and boys) for USA swimming.
  • 12x Sierra Nevada LSC records broken by swimmers coached by Matt.
  • SNS board member (age group chair) fall 2020 to spring 2023.

STAS (2015 to 2019)

Matt joined STAS (spare time aquatics Sacramento) as the head coach and senior coach in 2015. The team flourished under his guidance, growing the program substantially over the years from around 50 year-round swim members to over 100. Swimmers in the senior group re-wrote the team record book with nearly every 15-18 team record broken during his 4 years. Matt coached Kristina Murphy to an Olympic Trials cut (200 breast) in summer of 2019. He also qualified swimmers to Jr nationals, futures, and sectionals with swimmers securing final swims at all of those meets as well.

Arden Hills/DART (2009 to 2015)

Matt was able to begin his coaching career with the team he competed on (Arden Hills) for the entirety of his pre-collegiate swimming. Starting off at the summer recreation level with 1 year as head coach, he moved on to the year-round competitive side in 2011. Matt worked with swimmers in the senior II group (ages 13 to 16) and gold group (ages 9-12). During these early years he was able to discover his joy and passion for coaching swimming and was the springboard to securing his first head coaching job in 2015.
