The Poulsbo Piranha Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Poulsbo Piranha Swim Team is to offer age-specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Group Objectives: Bronze 1 & Bronze 2 - are training groups that emphasize the further development of swimming skills. The focus is on keeping the sessions fun so that kids will want to stay in the water year-round and develop a good feel for the water. We stress fundamental swimming skills: perfect head & body position, kicking emphasis, body awareness, starts, turns and finishes. We teach young people to love the water and have fun learning how to master fundamental skills.

Group Objectives: Silver 1 & Silver 2 - groups are for swimmers who are ready for the next level of swimming. Swimmers are encouraged to meet higher attendance expectations (3-4 times per week) and swim throughout the year while still participating in other sports activities. Silver 1 swimmers should be working toward proficiceincy in all 4 strokes while those in Silver 2 are expected to have high quality technique.  Higher level training should ONLY become of higher importance until strokes are mastered.  Once technique is solid, training emphasis at this stage is on low-intensity aerobic stroke efficiency work.  Athletes are also educated in race planning and goal setting. Amount of kicking emphasis depends on proficiency; drills, starts and turns should be honed; we learn that hard work and competition are fun and that it’s okay to try new ideas

Group Objectives: Pre-Gold - This group is designed mainly for the "flex" members.  Typical group members would be those prepping for a high school swim season or summer only.  This may also be an extended "tryout" and may lead to a high school age swimmer joining the team full time.

Group Objectives: Gold - expected to have the swimmers to be mentally driven to train hard. Proper stroke and turn techniques have become habitually consistent, allowing more emphasis to be placed on physiological training. The age range of 13-16 is known as the “window of opportunity” for developing aerobic capacity, and we provide the opportunity for more high intensity training addressing Fast Twitch muscle fibers. Swimmers are encouraged to attend practices as often as possible, and morning workouts are offered year-round for the top-level groups. Dryland/strength training is an important element of these groups with a focus on core body strength, mobility exercises and recovery techniques. Yoga and light weight strength training may be made available.  This level swimmers are expected to be good role models for younger swimmers.
