While researching dedication, we came across a powerful African Adinkra symbol called Tabono. In the Adinkra language of West Africa, tabono means “oar” or “paddle.” Visually, it’s depicted as four paddles joined together—a symbol of unity of purpose, strength, confidence, and hard work to reach a destination or goal. It teaches us that greatness cannot be achieved without sacrifice, persistence, and inner strength.

The dictionary defines it as “the quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose.” But that definition feels flat—it doesn’t capture the depth of the word. Dedication is layered. It can mean commitment, devotion, faithfulness, or loyalty, but even those don’t fully explain it.

To us, the true meaning of dedication—of tabono—comes to life through experience and people. It’s something you witness, something you live. It’s early mornings, tired muscles, showing up when it’s hard, and standing by your teammates no matter what. It’s not just about what you do—it’s about who you are while doing it.
