COACHES AND REPS
Matt grew up locally in Annandale, Va. He began his swimming career at Forest Hollow Swim Club in Annandale at the age of four. Later, Matt was their Head Coach from 2001-2004. He graduated from Annandale High School in 2002. In his senior year, he was the Captain of the swim team while leading them to a third-place finish in the state and a member of the State Record Setting 200 Medley relay team. After high school, Matt went on to swim for the College of William and Mary. Matt qualified for Junior Nationals in three events as a member of the Arlington Aquatic Club. While swimming for William and Mary, he received the "Freshman of the Year" award and continued to make more National qualifying times. Matt started coaching for the Williamsburg Aquatic Club in the summer of 2006. After graduating in 2007 with a degree in Marketing and Information Technology, Matt went back to AAC and still coaches today as the Assistant Coach to the National Elite Group at the Long Bridge Site. Matt also has extensive experience in the property management, pool management, personnel, and hospitality industries. He is currently WGCC's own Director of Aquatics and Club Events Coordinator. Matt has built a great reputation in the swimming community and we look forward to him leading and continuing to grow the program at WGCC in his 11th year with our club.
Evan has been with the Arlington Aquatic Club since 1993. He spent the first 12 years as a Head Age Group coach and the Head Masters coach. In 2005, Evan took over as the Head Coach.
Evan grew up in Alexandria, VA, where he attended Mt. Vernon High School and graduated in 1987. He went on to get a BA in Geography in 1991 from Mary Washington College and then a MSS in Sport Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, AL in 1993.
Evan has also been a Varsity high school coach for the past 32 years. He spent 22 years at O'Connell and the past 10 years at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School. During the summers, Evan coached in the NVSL, the last stop was for 21 years at Dowden Terrace. Evan has served as the Virginia Independent Schools (VISAA) Swimming President, the PVS Senior Chair, and a PVS Coaches Rep.
Evan has coached at every single level of swimming. From learn to swim, nationals, Olympic Trials, and recently an Olympic medalist and world champion.
He is excited to be heading into his 2nd season with the Lightning family!
Amy returns for her 29th season at WGCC! She has led the team to 24 consecutive CCSDA team titles. A native of Falls Church, she pursued her academic and athletic career at N.C. State University. While at N.C. State, Amy earned ACC Academic Honors and the team Coaches Award. Her coaching experience includes head coaching positions at Georgetown University and Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association. She is currently the Head Dive Coach at Yorktown High School AND both Williamsburg and Swanson Middle Schools. She has produced NCAA Zone Qualifiers, University Record Holders, the only diver to be inducted into the Georgetown University Athletic Hall of Fame, High School All-Americans, a Junior National Finalist, and numerous CCSDA individual champions. Amy resides in Arlington with her husband Adam and their three sons; Matthew, Peter, and John.
Beth O'Connor Baker has been a swim coach for much of her life. She's been on the American Univ coaching staff for 24 years, where her primary focus has been on technique development for both the men's and women's teams. For 3 of those years, Coach Beth also took on the role of Sprint Coach. Summers were spent coaching at Overlee Swim Club (2004-2016), then from 2020-22 where her focus was on the "Future of Overlee", coaching the 8 & unders to great success. Overlee won multiple Championships during her tenure as with a focus on strokes, starts, turns, & finishes, the swimmers found positive results. She looks forward to helping the "Future of WGCC" achieve the same success.
A 1983 graduate from the University of Virginia School of Education, Baker was a 10-time All-American in butterfly and IM events. She went on to earn a master's degree in exercise physiology, also from UVA. Since then, she has competed at the highest level of age-group triathlon and masters swimming. Baker broke over 30 world and national masters swimming records. She was ranked first in the world in over 15 events and was named one of 12 USMS Masters Swimmers of the Year. She also garnered a spot in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" column. Additionally, Baker has been elected to UVA's Swimming Hall of Fame and was named one of the top 50 swimmers of all-time in the ACC.
In addition to working at the collegiate level, Baker's specialization in this field has given her the opportunity to work with all levels of the USS athletics, including work with the National Champion NCAP club. She also works with a number of prominent age-group swimmers, masters, and triathletes, including NCAA Champions, Olympians, and several age-group national record holders.
Coach Baker lives in Arlington, Va., & has one son, Ryan, who was a nine-time All-American swimmer for Coach Beth's alma mater, the University of Virginia and for the last two years was the Head Coach here at WGCC!
Elisabeth is a rising sophomore on the NC State University Swimming & Diving Team. She has five years of summer coaching experience and has been diving for 10. She qualified for many USA Diving Nationals and finished 9th on one meter in the summer of 2023. In high school, she dove for Lake Braddock Secondary School where she was named a high school All-American 4-times. Elisabeth is excited to work with the WGCC Dive Team this summer and with athletes who share the same love for diving as she does.
Mason Nassetta is excited to be back at WGCC! She started swimming and diving at WGCC when she was 5 years old and continued until she graduated at 18. Mason has many CCSDA individual titles and was a State qualifier at Yorktown High School. She served on the WGCC diving staff during college. Now Mason is living in Nashville, TN working as a middle school teacher. She will be coming home to Arlington for the summer to coach. diving and is really looking forward to being on the pool deck again and working with all the kids.
Evan is a rising junior on the Duke University Diving Team. He was on the NCAA and ACC squads at Duke. He has 7 years of coaching experience. Evan is a graduate of W-L High School where he was a high school All-American.
Meet Kevin Scanlon, a Senior Finance major at James Madison University, who has been diving since the age of 4 when he first joined his summer dive team. By 11, Kevin was diving year-round for Montgomery Dive Club, showcasing his dedication and skill by competing at the Junior Olympics level and securing multiple qualifications for Nationals. Over the past 7 years, Kevin has passionately honed his coaching skills under the mentorship of some of the nation's top coaches. He is thrilled to continue his journey with the WGCC dive program, working alongside its wonderful team of athletes.

Kate lives in Arlington, Virginia, and is a rising senior at Georgetown Visitation. She started diving for WGCC at 8 years old and has since participated in "champs" for many years. Kate has been selected for multiple awards and was the Overall High Point Female Diver in 2022. She has loved her summers diving at Washington Golf and is excited to return this summer as a Junior Coach!
Palmer is a rising Senior at the College of Charleston and has been a member of the Lightning family since he was 8 from swimming to junior coaching and finally assistant coaching. Palmer is excited to be going crazy one last summer with the lightning family!
My name is Nadia Thomas. I just completed my freshman year at Brown University, where I am on the swim team. I started swimming with NCAP when I was 7-years-old, and I also swam on the Holton-Arms swim team. I can't wait to coach at Washington Golf. It’s going to be a fun summer!
Josie joined the Washington Golf swim team when she was 11 and has been swimming competitively since the age of 5. She graduated from Washington Liberty High School in June of 2024 and just finished her freshman year at the College of the Holy Cross, where she is studying Biochemistry and competing for the varsity swim team. At WL, Josie was a member of NHS, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Connect Freshman Mentoring, she was a Generals Brigade leader, a Special Olympics basketball coach and was also EMT certified. Josie has loved her years working as a junior coach for the team and is excited to take on a bigger role this year as an assistant coach. She can’t wait to see what this season has in store for the lighting family.
My Name is Nolan Dunkel and I will be swimming at the university of Utah as a sophomore in the fall. My favorite things to do are play guitar, volleyball, and spend quality time with my friends. I have been coaching for 4 years and I hope to make positive impact at wgcc.
Hi my name is Maren Schwarz and I have been on WGCC since I was four years old! I have also swum year round since I was 7 and am currently swimming with AAC where I have been a part of the National Team for the past two years. This fall I will be attending Wake Forest University and following a pre-med track. I’m very excited for the 2025 season and can’t wait to see all the little lightening!!
Mackie is a rising senior at the Potomac School. Mackie has been a member of the WGCC swim team since he was 6 years old and loves his summers with the Lightning family. Mackie is a starter on both varsity lacrosse and football at Potomac, where he has helped each team capture a MAC title. Mackie's favorite strokes have always been freestyle and butterfly, where he has placed 1st in CCSDA championships in the past summer. In the summer, if not at the pool, you can probably find Mackie on the golf course or enjoying time with his friends and family in Rehoboth. Mackie can't wait for this swim season at WGCC.
Emory has been on WGCC's swim team since she was 7 years old. She is a rising senior at Yorktown High School and has been a member of the state championship team the past two years. Emory swims year-round for Arlington Aquatic Club (AAC) and has been a national qualifier. She is excited for another season with the Lightning and her second as a Junior Coach!
I’m a rising senior at Yorktown High School with 12 years of competitive swimming experience. I previously trained with Machine and now swim with AAC under Coach Evan. Alongside competing, I’ve spent the past five years coaching with Kent Gardens and doing private swim lessons!
My name is Will Lepre. I have been on the WGCC swim team since I was 6 years old. I will be a junior in high school at the Heights next year. I have made many memories at WGCC, and look forward to helping as many kids have as much fun as I have had.
Hi my name is Sabine Barbee and I am a new Junior Coach this summer. I have swum competitively all my life as a member of York swim club and I currently swim for Arlington Aquatics club. I have been on the WGCC swim team since I was 8, and some of my best summer memories have been on this incredible team. I look forward to coaching and I cannot wait for this season!
Hi my name is Elle Rasmussen and this will be my second year coaching for WGCC swim and dive. I am a rising junior at Holton Arms School. I have been swimming for WGCC since i was four and have looked forward to it every summer. From the morning practices to the late meets I love every aspect of summer swim and this amazing team. This summer I hope to have a great time and help out the younger swimmers the best I can. Can’t wait for the season and go lightning!
Caroline is a rising Sophomore at Yorktown High School where she plays on the field hockey and tennis teams. She has been swimming for WGCC since she was 7 years old and has loved spending her summers as part of the Lightning family! She is excited to be a Junior Coach this year and work with the newest members of the swim team!
My name is Oliver, I have been swimming at washington golf for around 6 years and swimming competitively outside of it as well. I am a rising Senior and a Swim and Dive Captain at Gonzaga College High School in DC. I cant wait to have a great summer with the Lightning!
Hi, my name is Gloria. This is my first year at WGCC, but I have been coaching for another summer swim team (Kent Gardens) since my freshman year of high school! I go to Langley High School and swim for Arlington Aquatic Club. I am very excited to be part of the community!
Hi I’m Katie Dailey! I’m a rising junior at McLean High School and I’ve been on the swim team since I was six! I’m super excited to be a junior coach this summer and to be apart of the lightning family again!
