The Elks Escape the Cougars' Clutch on Senior Night
Elk River swam to victory over Centennial with a score of 111 to 93 on February 25, 2021. During the meet, the Elks set Centennial pool records in the 200 Medley Relay, 1 Meter Diving and 100 Butterfly. Despite Elk River’s success, Centennial turned out many fantastic performances and 53 best times during the meet. Aiden Gillen’s 50 Freestyle time of :22.91 advanced him to the 4th spot on the team’s Top Times List, and his 500 Freestyle time of 5:27.44 placed him 9th on the list. Hunter Belting’s 100 Backstroke performance of 1:00.11 put his name in the 8th position of the team’s Top Times List, while the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Aidan Gillen, George Atkinson, Liam Gulaid, Hunter Belting made it to the 8th spot on the list with a time of 3:33.00. Other notable performances during the meet were first place finishes by Hunter Belting in the 200 Freestyle (1:55.06) and Max Scheurer’s 100 Breaststroke (1:05.63).
This meet was the last home meet for the team’s 2020-2021 senior class of: Josh Aardahl, Hunter Belting, Aiden Gillen, Liam Gulaid, Riley McNamara, Ryan Shafer, and Josh Washburn. During a special recognition ceremony at the end of the meet, it was expressed by many of these senior’s teammates that these seven athletes have been great role models, inspirational, and close friends to the underclassmen on the team and each one of them will be missed next season.
