Sickness Plagues the Cougars in Meet With the Elks
With six varsity level swimmers out because of illness, Head Coach Pete Crawford asked many of the Cougar's jounior varsity swimmers to step up and fill in holes left in the Centennial line-up during its January 13th, swimming meet against Elk River. Despite the 94 to 84 loss, these debut varsity swimmers did a wonderful job rising to the task.
The Cougars had many amazing time drops and season best times during the meet. On the bus ride home from Elk River, Coach Pete highlighted a few of many lifetime best performances that were turned in at the meet, such as Caleb Creagan's 100 backstroke, Darick Finnerty's 100 freestyle and Evan Stokkeland's 100 Breaststroke. "The list of great performances at the meet is quite long when you consider that Centennial turned out more than 30 season best times", stated Coach Pete.
Capturing first place finishes for the Cougars were Alex Larkin in the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of George Atkinson, Benno Schuhbauer, Dominic Stevenson and Ben Condon.
Predicting that illnesses will continue to impact the Cougars into the weekend, Coach Pete is planning to take a handful of junior varsity team members to Saturday’s Section True Team swimming meet being held at Northdale on January 15th.
At the conclusion of the Elk River meet, Coach Pete stated that the team is lucky to have so many young swimmers willing to tackle the challenges of swimming varsity level events. The future looks very bright for Centennial Boys Swimming.
