Sawyer Celotta Makes a Splash During the Cougars' Victory Over the Rebels
During the January 20, 2022, meet against Champlin Park, Centennial honored it’s four senior swimmers at their last home meet of their swimming careers. Each of these athletes stepped up to the occasion by turning in fabulous performances. Dominic Stevenson anchored the 400-freestyle relay with a time of 57.16, while Quentin Lehman swam a season best time in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:03.88. Both Evan Stokkeland’s 100-breaststroke time of 1:15.40 and Connor Herbrechtsmeyer's 50-freestyle relay split time of 22.96 were lifetime best performances. At the conclusion of the meet, many of Cougar athletes gave powerful words during a ceremony that highlighted the contribution these four seniors have made to Centennial swimming over the past six years.
One of the many highlights of the meet was the performance turned in by 7th grader Sawyer Celotta who led the charge of the Cougars' 94 to 76 win over the Rebels with his first varsity win in the 1-meter diving event. While accomplishing this feat, Sawyer improved his lifetime best score by 10 points. Other first place finishes at the meet were turned in by George Atkinson, Ben Loehr, Alex Larkin and Ben Condon in the 200-medley relay; Connor Herbrechtsmeyer in the 50-freestyle; Ben Loehr in the 100-freestyle, Alex Larkin in the 100-backstroke; and Ben Condon, Alex Larkin, George Atkinson, Dominic Stevenson in the 400-freestyle relay.
When asked about the victory over the Rebels, Head Coach Pete Crawford said that he couldn't be prouder of his four senior swimmers' evening's races and stated that their personalities, skills and leadership will be missed next year. Coach Pete also mentioned that he was pleased with the 63 best times that were recorded by the end of meet and that he is confident the team is heading in the right direction.
Coach Pete is looking forward to this coming Saturday when the team's 7th, 8th and 9th graders will be competing at Northdale in the Red, White and Blue Invitational. All of Centennial's coaches are expecting the Cougars' young swimmers will be a force to be reckoned with.
