Total Team Effort Makes Centennial the Top Team at the Red, White, Blue Invitational

Centennial’s 7th, 8th and 9th graders were the top team at the Red, White, Blue Invitational that took place on January 22, 2022.  “It was a total team effort to pull off this victory”, Head Coach Pete Crawford told the Cougars during the bus ride home from Northdale.  Coach Pete also pointed out that Centennial had ribbon winners in all twelve events with multiple team members scoring points in each event.  At the conclusion of the meet, Assistant Coach Kevin Setterholm mentioned that it was the most successful meet the team has had yet this year. With 36 best times turned out at this invitational, almost every team member had a personal best time in at least one of the events they swam. 

Team scores at conclusion of the meet were: Centennial (511.5), Andover (428.5), Mankato West (333), Blaine (308), Maple Grove (304).

Taking first for Centennial were Caleb Cregan, Isaac Nguyen, Joseph Murray, Benno Schuhbauer in the 200 medley relay; Joseph Murray in the 100 freestyle; Caleb Cregan in the 100 backstroke; and Joesph Murray, Charlie Bryant, Caleb Cregan, Benno Schuhbauer in the 400 freestyle relay.  Other ribbon winners for Centennial were as follows:

  • 200 medley relay – Charlie Bryant, Matthew Kufner, Benjamin Larkin, Garrett Clark (4th place); Grant Page, Aidan Anderson, Cason Haider, Austin Brang (8th place)
  • 200 freestyle – Joseph Murray (2nd place); Garrett Clark (3rd place); Cason Haider (8th place)
  • 200 IM – Benno Schuhbauer (3rd place); Isaac Nguyen (5th place),;Jaden Manthey (6th place)
  • 50 freestyle – Caleb Cregan (3rd place); Benjamin Larkin (6th place)
  • 1-meter diving – Gavin Manthei (4th place)
  • 100 freestyle – Charlie Bryant (4th place)
  • 500 freestyle – Garrett Clark (5th place)
  • 200 freestyle relay – Benjamin Larkin, Austin Brang, Isaac Nguyen, Garrett Clark (2nd place); Grant Page, Aidan Anderson, Chase Horstman, Owen Leiter (6th place)
  • 100 backstroke – Charlie Bryant (2nd place)
  • 100 breaststroke – Benno Schuhbauer (3rd place); Isaac Nguyen (5th place); Matthew Kufner (6th place); Alex Peacock (7th place)
  • 400 freestyle relay – Gavin Manthei, Brendan Chretien, Cason Haider, Jaden Manthey (6th place).

The meet highlighted Centennial’s younger team members and they stepped up to the challenge.  It will be fun to see how these young men develop over the next couple of years.  If they stick together and continue to give the effort they have this season, the Cougars could very well be the top team in the conference and the section in near future.
