Cougars Place a Distant Second at Conference Relay Meet

Coach Kevin Setterholm

The Centennial Cougars began the 2022-2023 season by participating in the Northwest Suburban Conference Relays Meet hosted by Anoka on December 10th.  The team performed pretty much as Head Coach Pete Crawford predicted by taking second place out of the six teams on its side of the conference.  Crawford was very pleased that every Cougar swim at the meet was an improved time from the team's time trial event which took place a week earlier.  The coach also predicted that with the depth that the team currently has coming into the season, Centennial will be a contender for one of the top three places in the twleve team conference.

The junior varsity 200 Medley Relay team of Charlie Bryant, Matthew Kufner, Jaden Manthey and Jacob Taylor was
Centennial's only first at the meet.

Second place varsity finishes were turned by the following Centennial realy teams:

  • 800 Freestyle Relay - George Atkinson, Garrett Clark, Isaac Nguyen, Benno Schubauer
  • 400 Butterfly Relay - George Atkinson, Benno Schuhbauer, Charlie Bryant, Ben Condon
  • 400 Backstroke Relay - George Atkison, Brennan Nielson, Charlie Bryant, Caleb Cregan

The team standings at the conclusion of the meet were:

  1. Maple Grove - 353 points
  2. Centennial - 295 points
  3. Andover - 282 points
  4. Champlin Park - 272 points
  5. Anoka - 262 points
  6. Osseo - 230 points
