Centennial Alumni Returned and Reclaimed Their Former Domain
After 9 years in the making, the Centennial Cougars hosted the first alumni swimming meet in the team's history on December 28, 2022. The alumni swimmers made their presence known in the pool by winning almost every event and displaying some extremely fast times. A few of the returning Cougars even turned in personal record performances in the events that they swam that evening.
Volunteer Coach Greg Belting, who has been with team since its conception in 2012, said that it "is a great expeirence when alumni can come back to a familiar place and have a great time with the current athletes and it was an honor to see 13 young men back to the pool and perform with so much spirit like many of them did when the program began in 2013".
Even though Head Coach Pete Crawdford is the second head coach of the Centennial Boys Swimming Team, he knew all of the returning Cougars that swam that evening through his coaching of the Andover High School team when the Centennial Swimming came into being in 2013. Coach Crawdford had a great time mingling with the retuning athletes and mentioned after the meet that "it was good for Centennial's current team members to see the faces of the alumni that still hold school records and how this sport is able to develop camaraderie between team members that lasts a lifetime".
The evening of competition was finished off with root beer floats and story telling of the "good ol' days" and the possibility of a "bigger and faster" Alumni Meet in the future.
