Atkinson Earns Gold at the 2023 Section 7AA True Team Meet

Coach Kevin Setterholm

Centennial had high hopes for a second-place finish going into the 2023 Section 7AA True Team Meet held on January 14, 2023, but came home disappointed with a third-place finish behind Andover. It was only the second time in the team's eight year history that it has placed third at this meet.  Head Coach Pete Crawford was pleased with the Cougars performance at the competition and highlighted the fact that his swimmers turned in 29 seed time improvements out of 44 swims.  It was also pointed out that there were a number of great time drops by Cougar swimmers such as Garrett Clark’s 4.84 second drop in the 200 Freestyle and 9.24 second drop in the 500 Freestyle.

Senior Captain George Atkinson dropped 2.53 seconds in the 100 Backstroke and took home a gold medal with his first in the event.  Other Centennial medal winners were: Max Scheurer, Alex Larkin, Ben Condon, Benno Schubauer, Isaac Nguyen, Manny Poscher, Garrett Clark, Joe Murray, Caleb Cregan, Talen Greson-Stormoen, and Tyler Celotta.

Team Rankings at the conclusion of the meet were:

  • Duluth East – 1441.5
  • Andover – 1160.5
  • Centennial – 1138
  • Blaine – 1042
  • Anoka – 924
  • Forest Lake – 902.5
  • Coon Rapids – 665.5
  • Cambridge-Isanti – 429

The Centennial swimmers, divers and coaches are looking forward to Thursday’s dual meet with Andover as they all hope to show the Huskies that despite today’s loss, the Cougars are a force to be reckoned with.
