The Cougars Place Second at the 2023 Section 7AA Boys Swimming and Diving Championship Meet
For the third time in the Centennial Boys Swim & Dive Team's nine-year history, it took second place at the Section 7AA Boys’ Swimming and Diving Championship Meet. The Cougars' 200 Medley Relay team of Caleb Cregan, Max Scheurer, George Atkinson, and Ben Condon’s second place performance qualified it to participate in the State Swimming and Diving Meet. Max Scheurer will also be participating in the state tournament in both the 200 IM and 100 Breastroke because of his first place finishes in these events.
Besides the Cougars' strong finish in team rankings and qualifying four athletes to participate in the State Meet, the Cougars saw 91% best time performances and a combined total time drop of 2:55.87 from its prelims seed times at the Section Championship Meet.
A few notable performances during the two day competition were Matt Kufner’s 8.03 second drop in the 100 breaststroke, Charlie Bryant’s 4.71 second drop in the 100 Backstroke, Garrett Clark's 17.71 second drop in the 500 Freestyler, and Caleb Cregan’s 12.68 second drop in the 200 IM. Cregan also broke a minute in the 100 Backstroke by dropping 2.57 seconds and turning in a final time of 59.48. Additionally, Tyler Celotta's 4.80 second drop in the100 Butterfly allowed him to break the minute mark with his final time of 59.74 in the event.
Centennial Middle School records also fell during the meet. Eighth grader Benno Schubauer set records in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.85, the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:31.33 and the 100 Freestyle with a time of 53.69. Eighth grader Sawyer Celotta set a record in the 100 Breaststroke with his final time of 1:08.50.
Other Centennial medal winners at the section tournament were Ben Condon (200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle Relay), Benno Schubauer (200 IM), Joe Murray (50 Free, 200 Freestyler Relay) George Atkinson ( 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 400 Freestyle Relay), Garrett Clark (500 Freestyle), Charlie Bryant (200 Freestyle Relay), Manny Poscher (200 Freestyle Relay), Talen Greeson-Stromoen (200 Freestyle Relay), Caleb Cregan (100 Backstroke), Alex Larkin (400 Freestyle Relay) and Max Scheurer (400 Freestyle Relay).

A special shout-out goes to seventh grade diver Elijah Manthei. Elijah began the season with no competitive diving experience, but finished the season with an eleven dive list, placing at the Section Diving Championships Meet with a score of 182.10, becoming the 4th highest point earner on the middle school top ten list and recieving a varsity letter. Congratulations Elijah!
Recognition was also given to assistant coach Kevin Setterholm who was named the 2023 Section 7AA Assistant Coach of the Year.
