Max Scheurer Takes State Title and Earns All-American Honors in the 100 Breaststroke
The Centennial Cougars sent four athletes to compete in the 2023 State Swimming and Diving Championship Tournament on March 3rd and 4th.
The 200 Medley Relay team of Caleb Cregan, Max Scheurer, George Atkinson and Ben Condon swam their fastest time of the year with a 1:40.20 during the prelims meet on Friday evening. Their time gave them the seventeenth-place spot which unfortunately wasn’t enough to allow them to return for the finals meet on Saturday.
Max Scheurer went on to compete in the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke. During the prelims meet, Scheurer dropped 3.14 seconds from 200 IM seed time by swimming a 1:58.73 in the event which allowed him advanced to the finals meet where he placed fifteenth over all.
In the 100 Breaststroke, Max shattered the Centennial High School record by more than 2 seconds. This performance sent him to the finals meet where he shaved off another .15 seconds from his previous record performance. Scheurer’s final time of 55.47 in the 100 Breaststroke earned him All-American honors and the title as the 2023 Minnesota State Champion in the event.
Senior Captain Max Scheurer’ efforts over the past five years have earned him the recognition in Centennial Boys Swimming history as the team’s first All-American and State Champion.
