Cougars Boys' Swim & Dive find Success against the Bengals

Coach Zach Roberts

Happy Holidays from the Boys' Swim & Dive team!

The Cougars had a busy week this week between their academics pushing forward to Winter Break and two meets this past Thursday and Saturday!

Thursday's dual meet against the Blaine Bengals gave swimmers their first real test in a competitive meet. For many of our JV swimmers, this was their first meet ever, with rookie swimmer Antonio Cordova being one of Coach Pete's swimmer of the meet. Antonio swam in four events, swimming free style in the JV Medley Relay, the 50 Free, 100 Free and starting off the relay in the 200 Free JV Relay. Coaches Pete and Bob also noted the remarkable performance by Quinlan Wells and are looking forward to the progress he will continue to make over the season.

Coach Pete's varisty swimmer of the meet was Brendan Chretein, who hit best times in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle. "When you look at the work he's putting into his swimming, Brendan's stroke often makes his [technique] look effortless and you can see the improvements he's investing in," said Coach Pete.

Divers Elijah Manthei, Blake Thorson, and Austin Brang racked up big points for the Diving Crew, with noticable improvement from JV Diver Caleb Saucier. Elijah had a PB while diving at this meet; a feeling that never gets old no matter how many dives one may or may not do.

With a final score of 104-77, the Cougars moved on to the Bengal Invite the following Saturday.

On Saturday, the Varsity boys swam at Northdale Middle with nine other teams and without a full roster like they had on Thursday. While two meets in two days can be an uphill battle for any athlete, the Cougars gave it their all anyways, swimming strong and showing just how fierce of competitors they can be even while tired. Varsity swimmer Grant Page had a notable personal best in the 400FR Relay this weekend, stepping up big time to fill in gaps left by swimmers gone for the holidays.

Coming in 3rd out of 10 teams, the Cougars ground out another big success as they now look forward to holiday practices.

Come cheer on the Boys' Swim Team next Thursday, January 2nd when the Cougars travel to Andover to take on the Huskies at Fred Moore Pool.
