A Victory Against the Orioles and A Trip to True Team State
Good evening from the Centennial Boys' Swim & Dive Team!
This last week for the Cougars put the boys up against one of their greatest challenges yet this season: a test of their abilities at the True Team State Meet at the Jean K Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. The boys prepped all week, focusing on improved technique, goal 50's and strong opponents in the Osseo Orioles the Thursday prior. A large congratulations is due to the Orioles Swim Team as they set two new pool records in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay. In the 200 Medley Relay, Osseo swam a 1:40.29, beating the previous pool record by .51 seconds and in the 200 Free Relay, they finished with a time of 1:30.70, beating the previous record by nearly a second and a half. The Cougars current record in the 200 Free Relay still stands at 1:28.67, set in 2018 by Baufield, Tran, Deshitsa, and Matson. Not to be outdone, however, the Cougars placed first and second in almost every other race to set the final score above the Orioles by nearly 35 points. Coach Bob's Swimmer of the meet was Grayson Wespiser as he swam the 500y Freestyle and immediately hopped into the next race to anchor his teams 200 Free Relay team! Great swims all around!
The Cougars prepped for Saturday, taking their team to True Team State for the first time in team history. While there, the boys witnessed outstanding swims from every team competing. While the team placed 12th out of 12 teams, the boys got to stand among the greatest swimmers in the state, something not lost upon them as they progress towards the last month of the season.
Out of the water, the boys got to spend some valuable time giving back to their community with a volunteering opportunity at Feed My Starving Children this past Monday. A large thank you to the Boosters for putting this opporunity together and giving the Cougars a chance to be part of something larger and for putting together a wonderful way to spend Martin Luther King Day.
Come cheer on the Boys' Swim & Dive Team as they head to Maple Grove tomorrow to face the Crimson at their home pool at 6PM.
