A Win Against the Pirates, a Tough Loss to the Elks, and One Last Meet Against the Knights
Hello from the Centennial Boy's Swim & Dive Team!
A lot has happened in the past week; some ups, some downs, and a lot to be thankful for as the season draws near its end.
On Thursday, January 30th, the Boys Swim & Dive team put up strong times against a young and developing Park Center Pirates team. The swimmers had a lot of strong, personal best on the JV side of things and after the meet, the varisty guys got a chance to honor all of the seniors on the team. It was a great night for all and Centennial wishes the Park Center Pirates a wonderful end to their season!
This past Thursday, the undefeated Centennial Cougars went up against the undefeated Elk River Elks for a shot at the Conference Championship and a chance to earn a banner to adorn the pool deck here at Centennial. With a tough 98-88 loss, the Elk River Elks took home another championship this year. That being said, many of the varsity swimmers had best times in their many events. Jacob Digre swam an incredble 22.87 in his leg of the 200 Freestyle Relay with captain Joe Murray following him with a 22.19! In the 400 Free Relay, Jacob led his relay with a time off of the blocks at 54.30. In all of his events, Brendan Chrieten had personal bests, helping out his 400 Free Relay team with a strong finish at 54.09 seconds. In the 500 Freestyle Relay, Harvey Czapko had a personal best of 5:42.70, dropping a whopping *twenty* seconds on his 500 time from his personal best. While the outcome of the meet was not the one the team wanted, it's hard to be upset with the overall improvement from the boys. When all was said and done, there were 70 seasonal bests that were scored at this meet. Way to go, Cougars!
On Friday, the JV Boys completed their last dryland training session as their season begins to taper down to rest and recovery for their JV Champs meet this coming Saturday, February 15th. For their last events of the season, the JV Boys have sent their requests to Coach Bob who is putting the roster together. "It's incredible to see how far some of these boys have come from swimming for the first time this summer, much less swimming competitively for the first time since December," Coach Bob said. "We had a good group of JV guys this year. We'll have a great group, next year."
Tomorrow evening, the boys take on the Irondale Knights for their last dual meet of the season. Even though it is a nonconference meet, the boys are looking forward to one last dual meet this season before heading into their tapered practices also. Come cheer loud as the boys finish up their regular season!
