Cougars start the new year with Success against the Blaine Bengals

Happy New Year from the Centennial Boys' Swim & Dive Team!

The new year is off to a busy start with the athlete's taking their annual trip to compete in the "West Fargo Border Battle" up in Fargo, North Dakota. The high schoolers on the team, JV and Varsity alike, headed up north to test their mettle against their fellow Fargo swimmers and divers. The Team Boosters did an incredible job of providing the boys' with everything they could have hoped for- catered meals, a nice hotel to stay in, snacks all weekend to stay fueled and a team trip to "Puzzled Escape Rooms" where even Coaches Pete and Zach put their thinking muscles to the test.

While some of the more veteran swimmers were able to maintain their best times within a second or two, the team saw some great performances from some of younger guys, including a best time in the 200 Yard Freestyle from Calvin Waldvogel and a four and half second drop from Evan Lautenschlager in his 100yard freestyle. A special shoutout is deserved for Elijah Manthei as he competed in the diving competition on his own, scoring a 268.25, less than five points off of his personal best from last year's True Team performance! Way to go, Elijah!

The Fargo Border Battle this year was one to remember! Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who drove up to support the athletes and, again, a giant thank you to the boosters for the incredible planning that was done to make sure this was a great trip!
 

Yesterday, the boys' swim and dive team took on the Blaine Bengals at Northdale Middle School, a close match as ten of our swimmers and one coach were out with illness. Outlasting the Bengals in a 99-82 victory, the Cougars pulled through and stepped up for their teammates that were out sick. Coach Pete's swimmer of the meet was Evan Lautenschlager who continued to improve upon his times in the pool, dropping nearly eight seconds in his 200 yard freestyle and hitting a season best in his 500yard freestyle by 14 seconds! Way to go Evan!

Next Thursday, January 15th, the boys take on the Park Center Pirates here on the home surf. We hope to see you then!
