Swimming is a sport that relies heavily on parent volunteers. We ask each family to work 1 shift per home meet. Each job is divided into the first half and second half. Each half of a swim meet counts as a shift. Away meet obligations will be shared once the hosting team shares their needs. Please prepare to work at least 1 away meet. We thank each and every parent for your time and assistance in providing a successful season for our swimmers.
Job Descriptions
Clerk of Course: This position is usually used in invitationals and champs. This person will check in swimmers as they enter the pool for their event.
Line up swimmers: (Often called Angels) These parents will sign up to assist by gathering and delivering the swimmers to the pool deck. They will escort them back to their parents once the event is over. This is a great job for you to see your own swimmer if you pick their gender and age group.
Timers: This is a great job for a close-up view of the meet. You will time the swimmers in your assigned lane using the team-provided plunger/stopwatch.
Ribbons: This person will take printed labels and stick them to the appropriate ribbons, cut additional ribbons needed, and file our teams’ ribbons. This job will be seated off the pool deck and is perfect if you have a younger child in tow.
Officials: This position can only be filled by parents who have taken the Delmarva Swim Association training.
Computer & Daktronics: This position needs prior training and is perfect for the “attention to detail” parent while giving you a front-row seat to the meet.
Concessions: This job entails setting up or breaking down our small concession stand as well as working to sell and restock items. Concession workers can rotate with each other to ensure they can see their swimmers.
