Weekly BGHS Swim/Dive Update - May 14, 2023

At the NIAA 5A Regional Championship Finals yesterday, the Gaels raced to 3rd place finishes on both the Boy's and Girl's sides! This was our highest finish since 2019. Both sides finished behind traditional powers Palo Verde & Coronado. The Boy's race was particularly exciting as we jumped 2 teams in the last event to take home the 3rd place title (and qualified for State while doing so).
 
Overall, the Gael's did an amazing job stepping up and racing at Finals. In nearly every individual swim, our teammates either improved their place, their time, or both. That is what Finals is all about! Our relays also exceeded their seeds and scored huge points for the team. Way to go Gorman!
 
The following swimmers advanced to next week's  NIAA State Championship in Carson City:

  • Julie Merlin: 100 Back
  • Valentino Montegrande: 100 Fly **SCHOOL RECORD**
  • Nick Moore: 500 Free
  • Girls 200 Medley Relay: J. Merlin, Scheidler, Z. Zachariou, Linderman
  • Girls 200 Free Relay: Z. Zachariou, Herra, Linderman, de Leon
  • Girls 400 Free Relay: J. Merlin, Scheidler, de Leon, Hillcoat
  • Boys 400 Free Relay: Montegrande, Cardinali, Moore, White

State Meet Info
I texted all of the State qualifiers some initial information about the week and what to expect next weekend. As we get more info and finalize travel plans, I will communicate it. Email or text with questions (but check your athlete's phone first).
 
Turn in Equipment Bags
If you checked out a Bishop Gorman equipment bag for the season (blue or orange mesh bag, kickboard & pull buoy), please turn them in at the banquet tomorrow night or drop them off in my office at Bodyline Swim Shop.
 
Team Banquet Monday, May 15
The coaches can't wait to celebrate the season with you all tomorrow night. A reminder it is $20 (cash or check) at the door for all guests. The athletes do not have to pay. We will start serving dinner around 6:00pm.
