Weekly BGHS Swim/Dive Update - May 22, 2023

Coach Michael Kinross
That is a wrap on the 2023 Bishop Gorman Swim/Dive season. The week kicked off with a fun team celebration at the Banquet. Congratulations to all of you who earned letters, academic awards, or special team awards. A special thank you to Jennifer Moore for helping organize the evening.

The season concluded this past Saturday in Carson City as 10 teammates raced at the NIAA 5A State Championships. Overall, the Girls team finished in 9th with 24 points. The boys ended their season in 12th with 16 points scored. Our highest individual finishers were Julie Merlin (3rd-100 Back) and Valentino Montegrande (2nd-100 Fly), both earning All-State honors. Our highest relay finish was the lady's 200 Medley Relay, as the team of Merlin, Mylie Hillcoat, Zoe Zachariou & Emma Scheidler took 5th place in the opening event of the meet.

It was a great season, Gaels! The coaching staff is very proud of the improvement and growth you all displayed over the past 3 months. The future appears bright for us as we graduated very few Seniors compared to our massive underclassman group.

A few reminders and notes as we get into the Summer...

Awards Pick-up
If you were unable to attend the banquet, your awards can be picked up in the Athletic Office next to the School Spirit store. They are in the mailboxes to the right immediately when you walk in, in the "Swim/Dive box". I also messaged you privately last week.

Club Swimming
As I said at the banquet and at the start of every season... It is impossible to get better at swimming without swimming. Many of you have asked about club swimming and continuing the momentum you have going from our High School swim season. DON'T WAIT TO JOIN! If you are serious about improving for next season and making an impact for the Gaels, start swimming again right away.

You can not go wrong with any of the clubs in the area. There are also rec/summer league type of teams at many of the community centers and health clubs. I encourage you to look into all of them and do what is best for your family. I am happy to provide unbiased help as well if you are looking for guidance.
