Weekly BGHS Swim/Dive Update - April 8, 2024
It was another stellar week of training and improvement for the Gaels. The Coaching Staff can honestly say the past two weeks have been some of the best work we have done in my 8 seasons coaching Bishop Gorman. We can't wait to see this hard work pay off as we enter our most competitive portion of the season. Keep it up Gaels!
There is some important information below, including finalized dates for our Championships in May. Please read through the full news blast!
No Practice on Friday, April 12!
Due to the Staff Institute day, we will
NOT have practice on Friday, April 12. There will be REGULAR practices Monday-Thursday week, even on the standardized testing days where some grades do not have to attend school.
Upcoming Meet Commitment Deadline: Week 6 vs Foothill
The sign-up deadline for this Saturday's Meet vs Foothill was yesterday (Sat. 4/13, 11:15am arrival at Heritage Park Aquatics Center)! We will verify with the kids today at practice or via text. If you missed the deadline, please email me ASAP and we will get you signed up. While you are logged in, go through the rest of the season and commit to the remaining meets. You can always change your commitment if something comes up.
Arrival times, line-ups, relays, etc will all be published at the end of the week.
Reminder all student athletes must compete at over half of our meets to receive a Varsity Letter.
Commit to each meet via TU by:

Log in to the TU site
- Go to the Meets tab
- Click the red "EDIT COMMITMENT" button for the meet you are RSVPing for
- Click on the name of the member you are RSVPing for

Declare "yes" or "no" that you can attend the meet
- If you have a special circumstance where you might be late, need to leave early, or anything else the coaches need to know, = elaborate accordingly in the notes field
- Click "Save changes"
Championship Season Schedule Finalized
The NIAA announced our assignments for the swimming and diving 2024 Championship series. All of these dates and information is available under the "MEETS TAB" on TeamUnify as well.
The Championship meet series is divided into 3 different competitions, explained below. The deadline to commit to ALL 3 EVENTS IS THURSDAY APRIL 25. All athletes must have competed in THREE meeets to be eligible for NIAA Regionals
MEET #1 - Cheryl Grossman Last Chance Meet
Date: Wednesday, May 1
Arrival time: 1:30pm (
School Dismissal Time TBA)
Location: Pavilion Center Pool
Who: All teammates who do NOT have Regional times and/or need a 3rd meet for Regional elgibility. This will be the last competition for teammates who are not selected for our Regional team.

Meet #2 - NIAA 5A Regionals
Date: Prelims - Tues. May 7; Finals - Thur. May 9
Arrival time for both sessions: 1:30pm (

Who: All eligible teammates who are selected for our line up

Regional Formatting: Prelims will consistent of individual events ONLY. The Top 16 finishing swimmings in prelims will advance to Finals with the oppportunity to score points for the team and advance to State. Relays will only be competed in the FINALS session
**The coaching staff will be putting our best line-up forward for Regionals. We are limited to only 4 individuals/event and ONE relay. Line-ups will be finalized the week of May 1
Meet #3 - NIAA 5A State Championship
Date: Saturday, May 18
Arrival time: 6:45am
Location: Pavilion Center Pool
Who: All qualifers from the Regional Meet
*To qualify for State, a swimmer or relay must finish in the TOP 4 of the "A-Final" at Regionals

2024 Swim/Dive Banquet Set
We will celebrate the 2024 Swim/Dive season on Thursday, May 23 at 6:00pm in Ryan Hall at the ATC. All teammates and family members are welcome to join us. More information to come. Please RSVP by Thursday, May 16 via TeamUnify (indicate approximately how many family members will accompany you in the Notes section, thank you!)
