Weekly BGHS Swim/Dive Update - April 30, 2023

Coach Michael Kinross
This past Saturday, the Gaels took on Swimming power house Palo Verde. Seeing as it was the day of prom and many of our club teammates were unavailable, we fell to the Panthers by a large margain on both the boys and girls sides. While this result wasn't unexpected, we did an awesome job racing on Saturday. We had a number of teammates earn their first Regional cuts, had some super fun and competitive relays, and got to honor our Seniors before the meet. Overall, it was a good Saturday and a great way to end our regular season. Now it's time to race in the post season!

Full results can be found here and are uploaded into TU.

Last Chance Meet Line-up
The first meet of the 2023 Post Season is this Wednesday, May 3, the Cheryl Grossman Last Chance Meet. The entries, school release time, arrival time, etc will be sent in a separate email following this email.

This meet serves as the last opportunity for teammates to get Regional times and/or the last time to race this season. You are not allowed to race events that you have Regional cuts in, so some of you that signed up to race I declined because you are ineligible.

No Practice Wednesday, May 3
We will NOT have practice this Wednesday, May 3 because of the Last Chance meet. All teammates who are not racing at the meet are encouraged to swim with your club teams or try go swim/workout on your own! If you do swim on your own, please be respectful of the facilities and make sure to pay the daily lap swim fee, if they have one.

The full list of non-practice days can be found under  Meets on the team website.

Do I still have to come to practice if I am no longer racing?
Yes, you should keep practicing! We want all teammates to keep coming to practices through Tuesday, May 9. After Regional prelims, practices will only be open to teammates who advanced to Regional Finals.

Regional Line-up will be announced after Last Chance
On Thursday or Friday morning, we will publish the Final Regionals line-up.

At Regionals, we are only allowed to enter 4 swimmers per event and 1 relay. Because our team is so big and we have a lot of good swimmers, just because you swim the Regional cut, you are NOT guaranteed a spot in the Regional line-up. At Regionals, the coaches will out our best, highest scoring line-up forward with consideration of trying to advance as many teammates to State as possible. We obviously don't want to leave anyone out, but it is going to happen unfortunately.

Team Banquet Monday, May 15
An email was sent out last week regarding the banquet. Please RSVP via TeamUnify by Monday, May 8. If you have have any questions about the banquet, please contact Jennifer Moore.
