Email from Coach Kathryn - Week 1
Hello Swimmers and Families!
Welcome to the 2022 season! I am so excited to begin this year – we missed you! We are welcoming back some great assistant coaches this year as well as some new faces joining our coaching staff. There are many practices and events that take place throughout our short nine-week season so the Parent Board and Coaching Staff will strive to keep everyone well informed. I will be sending out a weekly e-mail to keep you all updated. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any board member or coach after practice. Please read the following information carefully as there are numerous updates for the start of the season:
Here are a few reminders for the first week of practice:
**The first day of practice is on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 for swimmers 9 and over. There will be NO PRACTICE FOR 8 AND UNDER SWIMMERS TUESDAY, MAY 31, 2022. 8 and UNDERS will begin practice on Wednesday, June 1.
Tuesday, May 31: first day of practice
3:30-5:00 PM (ages 12 and up)
4:45-6:00 PM (ages 9, 10, 11)

Practice schedule – June 1-3:

4:45-6:00 PM (ages 9, 10, 11)
5:45-6:45 PM (ages 8 and under)
Morning practices will begin on Monday, June 20, 2022.
** New swimmer evaluations (developmental and swim team) will take place the first day of practice, Tuesday, May 31 from 6:00-7:00 PM. Please arrive between 5:45 pm and 6:50 pm. Click here for more information regarding new swimmer evaluations.
Practices are held every day (Mon-Fri) for all age groups.
(Morning practices begin Monday, June 20) Please see the website by clicking here for more specific times. Make sure your child attends the practice of his/her specific age group. No exceptions. I understand some children do not get out of school in time for the 12 and up practice, so do the best you can to get there as soon as possible. I do not need to know if your child is unavailable for a specific practice, however, when we begin dual meets, it will be very important to let me know if your child will be attending a dual meet.
Please make every effort to attend practices consistently (unless you are practicing with your winter swim club). With spring sports and school still in full swing, I realize many swimmers will miss practice until school is out. If you can only make part of a practice on a particular day, still come! The first few weeks of practices set the tone for the season and are where most drills are taught and early conditioning takes place.
**Please arrive to the pool at least 10 minutes before practice begins so you can be ready to start practice on time. Don't forget to wear/bring athletic shoes and socks for dryland. Dryland will consist of cardiovascular, upper, and lower body strengthening as well as flexibility and team building exercises. These age appropriate exercises are an important component in each swimmer's program and add many benefits to their swimming and diving experience outside of the pool.
During practice, it is important and necessary that swimmers have the proper equipment:
--A positive attitude
--Suit: Jammer or brief swimsuit for males, one-piece swimsuit suitable for diving for females.
--Goggles: comfortable and well-fitting goggles Click here for an example. They also have this style in a “junior” version and in many colors.
--Swim cap or hair tie
--Fins (Fins should be long blade with closed ankles). Please, prominently write your name on them with a permanent marker. For an example, please click here.
--Athletic shoes/socks for dryland practice.
--Towel.
-- Water bottle.
COLD WATER CLASSIC INVITATIONAL SWIM MEET:
The Cold Water Classic Invitational will take place Thursday, June 23 (evening session for swimmers 10 and under) and Friday, June 24 (evening session for swimmers 18 and under). Online registration will open soon.
Equipment and Suit Sale:
Personal Best will be at the Pool during practice from 4:15-6:15 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 selling equipment (suits, goggles, caps, swim bags) and non-logo team suits.
Calling all Parent Volunteers:
It takes a village to run our swim program and we are looking for parent volunteers to join our non-executive board. Open positions include meet manager, meet director, volunteer coordinator, and much more! Please consider stepping into one of these roles as they are crucial to fill and ensure that our season runs smoothly and efficiently. Any questions or concerns, please reach out to our team President, Megan Dougherty at [email protected] or myself.
Entering the Pool Facility:
Your child (and parent/caregiver) must bring their pool membership card and for their safety of your child(ren), anyone under age 12 must be walked to the coaches at the start of practice and picked up from coaches when practice ends. To reiterate, children under the age of 12 may NOT be dropped off at the pool entrance. Please, bring your pool pass!
Also, please check the website (www.lmtswim.com) on a regular basis. Key areas to look at are: Events (you must be signed in to view events, commit to events, and sign up for jobs), Team News, and Team Calendar. All the dates for the season can already be found on our throughout the Team Calendar!
Parents, we ask that you keep a good distance from the pool deck during practices. It is often distracting to your child, other children, and the coaches when parents are present on the deck. Feel free to watch from the grass areas surrounding the pool. If you need to speak with your child, if they are upset, or if they need extra help with their equipment, a coach will bring them to you. I realize that some of you may have questions or concerns that are not addressed on the website or in my weekly emails. The best way to reach me is by leaving me a note in my mailbox on the door of the swim team office. During practice, it is important that the coach’s attention is on the swimmers. I will not be regularly available through e-mail during the swim season. Our team President, Megan Dougherty is available through email should you have any administrative questions. Her email address is [email protected].
Again, I thank you for being a part of the LMT Swim Team Program and look forward to seeing you all on the pool deck! Happy Memorial Day!
See you at the pool,
Coach Kathryn
