Overlook News Splash No. 4, April 2025: Apparel, New Family Resources, Overlook Relays Update

Happy Spring, Overlook Families! It may feel like the summer season is far off with this chilly spring weather, but there are plenty of things to think about and do in the pre-season stretch! Please see below for important information about ordering apparel, volunteer and lifeguard opportunities, resources for new families, and an update about Overlook Relays.

TEAM WEBSITE/NEW FAMILY INFO

There is a wealth of information on the Swim Team Website - visit it and learn more about the upcoming season! 

• The 2025 registration period is now open and will conclude Friday, May 16th
• Please be sure to enroll in this year's version of the GoMotionApp via the team site and then process your payment and waiver on the Parks & Rec page
• The Team Guide is a great resource for newer families and parents
• The Swim Meet Calendar is updated with the league's schedule
• Social and team events are being added regularly, too!

APPAREL

The Overlook Swim Team online apparel store through T&T Swimming is officially open for suit, cap, shirt and sweatshirt orders. The May order deadline date has not yet been finalized but, once it is, it will be posted at the top of the above store link. 

The four week apparel production cycle as well as the need for suit and cap delivery by the first meet require order placement in the pre-season, so keep that in mind and order sooner rather than later. If you have apparel questions, contact Sara Maysilles at [email protected].

Since size and cut can vary between suit brands and styles, we encourage you to drop by T&T Swimming and have your swimmer try on suits before ordering. They are located at 3156 Oregon Pike and current hours are as follows: Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 12-5pm, Wed 3:30-7pm, and Sat 10am-12pm. They are planning on expanding their hours in May; call the store or check their website for details. 

PARENT VOLUNTEER TRAINING & SWIMMER LIFEGUARD OPPORTUNITIES

Scoring Training

We are currently recruiting scoring volunteers. In order to sign up for this volunteer position this season, please attend one training session: May 29th or June 4th from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Contact Jessica Northen at [email protected] or text 412-443-7481 to confirm and get address details. 

Stroke and Turn Official Training

Overlook needs more stroke and turn officials for the 2025 season. Our team is required to provide at least one for every dual meet. To become a stroke and turn official, you must attend a 1.5 hour training session that is available via Zoom. If you are interested, please reach out to Matt Hutchison at [email protected]. 

Lifeguards Needed

We invite swimmers to consider lifeguarding at Skyline or Overlook pools this summer! Hiring is underway for American Red Cross lifeguards now. Swimmers should be at least 15 years old to apply. Not certified? No problem! Email Jaclyn Chesson at [email protected] for details on how to achieve certification before the pool season starts. 

OVERLOOK RELAYS UPDATE (CANCELED)

Beginning last December, Team Leaders began recruitment for team volunteer roles, including Overlook Relays Coordinator. As of this month, all volunteer coordinator roles are filled except this one, as our internal deadline expired in mid-March. Lack of interest in this role, combined with hosting the Divisional Meet in July, factored into our decision to cancel Overlook Relays for the 2025 season. We hope to bring this event back next year with a renewed interest from swimmers, volunteers and league teams. 

Please plan to volunteer for dual meets and the Divisional Meet on July 19th at Overlook Pool. Divisionals and team sponsorships will be the primary source of fundraising for the 2025 team. We expect to be an excellent host for this league event!
