New Swimmer Tryout Requirements - 2026
In addition to accomplishing the requirements below, swimmers will need to display the stamina to continuously swim for a 45 minute practice.
8&U
• Must be able to swim one length (full 25m) of TWO strokes without assistance, touching the bottom, holding onto the wall, etc.
• Must be able to understand basic instructions about swimming without parents (or peers) translation or assistance
• Must be willing to listen and attempt new strokes
• Swimmers must come with the proper equipment: goggles, caps, proper swimming attire
9-10
• Must be able to swim the basic length of a race (50m) in two of the four strokes without assistance, touching the bottom, holding onto the wall, etc.
• If they can swim backstroke, must stay on their back for the majority of the 50m (inside the flags fine to flip to avoid hitting the wall)
• Must be willing to attempt all four strokes (if they can’t do all 4 already)
• Must be willing to attempt a flip turn, or a front somersault

• Must be able to swim basic length of a race (50m) in two or three of the four strokes without assistance, touching the bottom, holding onto the wall, etc.
• Must be willing to attempt all four strokes (if they can’t do all 4 already)
• Must be willing to attempt a flip turn
• Must be able to stay on their back during backstroke for 45 out of 50m (only acceptable inside the flags to avoid hitting head)
13+
• Must be able to swim 3 of 4 strokes with a level of competence at race length (50m and 100m free) without assistance, touching the bottom, holding onto the wall, etc.
• Must be able to do both a backstroke and freestyle flip turn
• Must be able to stay on their back during backstroke for all 50m.
