Your Last SHST Weekly Report of 2023!

HIGHLIGHTS & NEWS

Thank you for an INCREDIBLE season everyone!

This is your last weekly report of 2023 and my last communication with you all. Thank you for staying on top of all of the information, dates, and signups each week, and for being contributing members of this wonderful community!  Last night was my family's 10th (!) Champs dinner...  hearing the seniors speak still makes me tear up and the whole evening is such a huge reminder of how lucky we all are that our kids get to grow up in this remarkable community and with these amazing coaches in their lives.  

Thank you to coaches Mark and Paul for helping us raise our children to be great swimmers and great humans! Thanks to Erin for leading us all through a fantastic season. Thank you to Helen, Molly, Nicole, Leigh and Melissa for all of your years of dedication and service to the team.  Thank you to the Champs dinner committee - Gina, Anna, Kim and Emily - who created a wonderful season-end celebration for us all! 

Fall swim info will be emailed in mid to late August from Mark Anderson Aquatics, and sessions will begin after Labor Day. 2024 SHST Swim Team registration for current families will open in early January, and for new families shortly thereafter.

In case you didn't hear...  SHST = 2023 Marin Swim League Champions!

Saturday was the culmination of an exciting and successful season for the Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions as they competed for the top spot at the Marin Swim League Championships at Miwok Aquatic Center in Novato.  The Sea Lions, who were 7-0 for the regular season, claimed the win once again and scored 2,339.5 points.  The next closest team was the Strawberry Seals, with 1,601.5 points.
 
The meet began with the 8 & under Mixed Medley Relay, which had the crowd on the edge of their seats in a very close finish that saw the Sea Lions edge out Lucas Valley by a mere second.  The excitement seemingly never ceased; the Sea Lions’ victory was the result of every swimmer in every age group putting in their best effort to win points for their team.  Older swimmers were seen giving younger swimmers pep talks and hugs, and roaring encouragement was on display as teammates chanted and cheered for one another.  Sea Lions Elsa Kastner, Holly Hovey, and Nate Greenberg all scored the maximum 60 points apiece for the team, earning triple crown status.
 
Other top scorers included Julia Hyer, Soren Scozzaro, Hailey Bennet, Maggie Arenas, Kathryn Fahy, Zoe Singleton, Hannah Reichley, and Nolan Andrews.   Saturday’s Champs meet saw an incredible 256 best times, with 154 swimmers earning at least one best time!  It was an incredible day with countless successes and core memories made.  Congratulations, Sea Lions on all your hard work!

July 4th in the Hollow!

Be sure to come out for a wonderful day of family, friends and fun!  The day begins with the fun run, then the parade, and a celebration at the pool. SHST families are encouraged to join the parade.  Decorate your bike, scooter or whatever you plan to ride with yellow and blue.  Then on the 4th, meet at10:30AM on the corner of Deer Hollow and Butterfield where the parade kicks off at 11.  Click here for more details about July 4th in the Hollow or contact Yo Yoshida for more info.

 

Team Gift Pickup, Ribbons and Awards

Ribbon boxes will stay out at the pool for a few weeks - please pop by to pick up your ribbons as soon as possible. Your swimmer can still trade in Best Time ribbons for stars with Sharon Fahy at the pool (Mon-Thurs 9:30-noon).
 
Remember, Champs ribbons are different than dual meets, as there are not ribbons for every swimmer in every race. Heat winners get a ribbon, the top 8 in an overall event get a medal, and 9th - 16th place get an event ribbon. 
 
If you weren't able to come to the Champs dinner, you can email Molly to arrange a pick up of your swimmer's end-of-year gift.

Recap: SHST @ Swimarin Sharks - June 17, 2023

The Sea Lions traveled a short distance to San Rafael for their last regular meet of the season against the Swimarin Sharks. The early morning clouds burned off for a lovely day for a final dual meet. Sea Lions saw many personal bests, broken San Rafael High School pool records, and new triple crown winners. The Sea Lions had an incredible 129 best times and 90 swimmers with at least one best time!
 
POOL RECORDS & TOP TENS:
  • Congratulations to Elsa Kastner, who broke TWO SRHS pool records! Elsa edged out the old record set in 2014 (26.80) with a new time of 26.76 in the Girls 11-12 50Y Freestyle, then she crushed the old record set in 2013 (28.63) with a new time of 28.12 in the Girls 50Y Butterfly. Way to go, Elsa!
  • Nate Greenberg broke the SRHS pool record for the Boys 13-14 50Y Freestyle with a 22.88, surpassing the old record set in 2005 by a whole second and improving his #2 SHST Top Ten time. Unbelievable, Nate!
  • And finally, Nolan Andrews broke the SRHS pool record for the Boys 13-14 50Y Backstroke with a personal best time of 26.82, breaking a 25-year-old record (27.53), and improving his #1 SHST Top Ten time. Congratulations, Nolan!
A high five to all of these incredible athletes for their accomplishments on Saturday. They make it look easy!

As a volunteer based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we rely on swimmer registration fees and generous donations to help us operate while maintaining and building upon our incredible community. Donations specifically help us do this while expenses and costs continue to rise. Donations to our team also help us fund the many FUN events that we host during the season where kids build camaraderie and get to know each other outside of the pool (movie nights, karaoke, casino night, etc).
