SHST vs. Tidalwaves June 22, 2024 Recap

The Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions faced off with the Corte Madera-Kentfield Tidalwaves for their last regular meet of the season at home. The sunny skies brought lots of smiles and an extra long, barky cheer circle for our Sea Lions as each 8th grader said a special something for their last home meet. We were treated to a captivating national anthem from Dorian Betti, and the mixed relays were off.  We saw some tight competition in the 200Y 11-12 Mixed Medley Relay, with our Sea Lions team A edging out the Tidalwaves by a half second for the win. William Buennagel, Boys 8&U, gave it his all, shaving a combined ten+ seconds off of his Free, Back, and Breast strokes! Carina Garrison had a fast day, clocking best times and heat wins in both her 9-10 50Y Back and Breast strokes. In the Boys 13-14 Free Dax Fowler broke the 30-second barrier! Soren Scozzaro had a swift day, clocking best times left and right, then came into the Boys 9-10 100Y I.M. with a NT (No Time), and grabbed second place! Finally, little Violet Cereghino (Girls 8&U) shaved almost 3 seconds off of her 25Y Back – way to go, Violet! There were an unbelievable 210 best times from our Sea Lions on Saturday. Sea Lions, keep up the hard work this last week of practice to achieve those goals at Champs! Click here for Saturday's results.

June Fun!

Friday, June 28: Pups Meet & Pancake Breakfast

While the entire team has been practicing and racing this season, we have little Sea Lions just starting out through the Pups program. On Friday, June 28 we get to see all of the Pups’ hard work pay off at their very own home meet where they race each other and get a little sense of what these Sea Lion meets are all about. Come to the pool and support our soon to be Sea Lions at this adorable and special event! We can cheer on these Pups as they swim and race each other. Come enjoy the last day of the season with pancakes, followed by a lot of cheering for this year's Pups. Breakfast is served for the 10 & Unders starting at 8:00 AM, followed by the 11 & Ups at 8:30 AM. The Pups meet starts at 9:00 AM.  There is no SHST practice that day.

Friday, June 28: Shave Down

All 11 & Ups are invited to come to a Shave Down & Pasta Potluck Dinner to get ready for Champs. Shaving is a ritual swimmers perform before a big meet to reduce frictional drag and get into a fast mindset! And don’t worry, if you don’t want to shave, you don’t have to! If you do want to shave, please bring your own razor and shaving cream. We'll have buckets of water and band-aids on hand in the unlikely event of a nick. Come have fun with your teammates and carbo-load before Champs!

Dinner is a Pasta Potluck so each family is asked to send their 11+ swimmers with food to share. Evite was sent out last week.  Please RSVP and sign up to bring food.

Thank you Kurtzig Family for graciously hosting this event at your home!.

Congrats to the Swimmers of the Week!

Group 1/2: Wyatt Buennagel, Brady Koonce, Diana Karpenko & Nora Shorrock Chen

Group 3: Soren Scozarro & Holland Adams

Group 4: Sofia Gridirim & Lucas Hyland (Make up from last week)

Group 4: Sophia Duddleston & Gabe Porter

Double group 4!

MSL CHAMPIONSHIP MEET - Saturday, June 29th

If you have not already, DO THESE THINGS NOW for Champs Weekend:

1) Finalize your swimmer(s) events. This closes at noon today. Remember- we are not in charge of the meet, so there are absolutley NO late additions/changes.

2) SHST has filled the volunteer slots required by the host team. If you have a swimmer swimming and have not signed up for a volunteer shift, click here to help at Champs Dinner.

3) Buy tickets for Champs Dinner!

The Championship Meet, aka "Champs" is the final meet of the season, where every MSL team participates. Every swimmer swims! No qualifications are necessary. The Sleepy Hollow Swim Team has won Champs for 28 years in a row and we have every intention of keeping this incredible streak going! Coach Mark asks that everyone come to this meet! Each and every Sea Lion is important to our success at Champs.

To inform you on what you can expect and what is expected of you on this exciting day, please read below in its entirety.

WHEN & WHERE

Scott Valley Sea Serpents are excited to host Championships this year on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Miwok Aquatic Center, IVC College of Marin. Warm ups will start at 7 am, and the meet starts at 8:30am.

LOGISTICS

This is a brief outline of this year's meet! HERE is the Meet Packet, which everyone MUST read.  It has details about everything (timing, meet format, parking, spectators, awards ceremony) and will answer your questions.

Champs will run like last year-  two meets will be happening simultaneously- on opposite ends of the pool- a girl’s side (closer to the warm up pool), and boy's side (closer to the dive tank). 10 lanes per side! All 60 events will run in order.

All relays will be swum on the dive tank side of the pool.

Please plan on the first half of the meet running roughly 8:30 am -11:30 am with the second half running 11:45 am - 2:30 pm. There will be a 15 minute break after backstroke for volunteer changes. There will be an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the meet.

The Miwok pool has extremely limited deck space, therefore this will be a closed deck meet. No spectators will be allowed on the pool deck. Only swimmers, coaches, and volunteers! There are bleachers, but they are not huge. The best way to watch your swimmer swim is to volunteer!

Also note, to allow for viewing from the bleachers, there will not be tents over the blocks. Please keep this in mind if you are a timer. Wear a hat!

Our team will set up in the grassy field outside the pool gates. Like always, it is important to pay attention to the event numbers on the board so your swimmer does not miss a race. If you have never attended Champs, it’s helpful to know that it will be crowded -- 1000 swimmers, 400 volunteers and lots of spectators.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Volunteer: If you have a swimmer participating in Champs, you MUST volunteer.  High School parents and those who opted out of the Family Commitment also MUST volunteer. If you don't see an opening to volunteer, please volunteer for the Champs dinner here.

Declare your Swimmer: Swimmers need to declare for the meet, and can sign up for up to 3 strokes.

Deadline is by Today! Monday (June 24) at noon.  There are no exceptions or late adds/changes, as the heat sheets are not run by SHST.

Click here to sign up/finalize strokes for the Champs Meet now!

If you have questions, please refer to the Meet Packet.

Thanks All!  This is the finale of our season!  Lets go out with a bang and Kick Bootyakum!

Champs Dinner: June 30th

The very next evening we invite you all to join Coach Mark and Coach Paul, and your fellow teammates to commemorate the end of the season with dinner and an awards ceremony.  Come break bread and celebrate our amazing kids on Sunday, June 30th! Doors will open at 4:30pm, and dinner will be served at 5:00pm. See flyer below for menu, and to buy your ticket. Purchase your ticket NOW! This helps us immensley to plan accurately.

For anyone who has not fulfilled your 5 shift Family Volunteer Commitment, here is your last opportunity to contribute to the team. We need help to run the Champs Dinner. Please sign up for a Set Up, During the Event, or Clean Up shift HERE

Donations

As a volunteer based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we rely on swimmer registration fees and generous donations to help us operate while maintaining and building upon our incredible community. Donations specifically help us do this while expenses and costs continue to rise. Donations to our team also help us fund the many FUN events that we host during the season where kids build camaraderie and get to know each other outside of the pool (movie nights, karaoke, casino night, etc).

Every dollar and donation counts! You can donate any amount to our team HERE, and/or donate/sponsor a specific Fun event HERE. Your donation will be tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

We would like to thank Zamira Solari Realty for sponsoring the team's Fun Fridays again this season! Thank you to the Clarke Family and Celebrations of Marin for donating to the Champs Dinner again this year. We appreciate your generosity and support!
