HIGHLIGHTS & NEWS

Sea Lions vs. Terra Linda Orcas - May 10

The Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions faced off with rival Orcas from Terra Linda at Saturday’s home swim meet. The sun was shining as swimmers scuttled under tents and trees to stay cool and rested. After a particularly loud and intimidating cheer, a sweet national anthem sung by birthday-girl Abbey Smida and a near sweep of the medley relays, the meet was underway. Seven-year-old Violet Cereghino had a fantastic day, with a win and a best time in the 25Y Free and a best time in the 25Y Back, both of which qualified for All Stars. Triple threat Mabel Murphy qualified for All Stars in all three of her events, 11-12 Free, Back, and I.M. Jacob Brennan (9-10) added Fly and I.M. to his list of All Star qualifications! Kathryn Fahy and Zoe Singleton moved onto the Top Ten leader board into 9th and 10th place in their 13-14 Girls 50Y Back with times of 30.34 and 30.41, respectively. Baxter Dixon also moved on to the Top Ten leader board into 7 th place in his Boys 11-12 50Y Frees with a time of 25.45. Huzzah! It was great to see the returning 15–18-year-olds swim and help contribute to the team victory! There were 274 best times from our Sea Lions on Saturday - unbelievable!

Fun Committee Updates

Last week was a good one! Sea Lions lined up and said cheese for our annual photo day. Thier patience was rewarded with ice cream sandwhiches after the shot. Thank you to our volunteers who helped manage the chaos :). Photos will be delivered to the pool next week, and will sit on the snack bar for you to pick up.

Friday, May 16: 11+ The Amazing Race
All 11 & Up swimmers are invited to the Sea Lion Amazing Race! This super fun, fast-paced event involves teamwork, lots of running and quick thinking! The swimmers work in teams led by our High School swimmers to solve clues that lead them to various destinations in the Hollow where they will play hilarious games and participate in goofy challenges with the goal of getting to their next clue…all in an effort to get to the final destination first to become the 2025 SHST Amazing Race Champions. All of the players and HS leaders gather at the end for pizza.

All participants should WEAR their bathing suits under comfortable running clothes (shorts, t-shirt). All participants should WEAR RUNNING SHOES! There is A LOT of running in this event. Be prepared to get wet and be prepared to run!

Meet in the courtyard at the Clubhouse at 4:30pm SHARP. Do not be late.

Groups 1 & 2 will have combined practice that day 4:00pm-4:40pm. There will be no practice for Group 3 or Group 4.

Friday, May 30: Final SLIC Store of the season

8&U swimmers are coming home with plastic yellow coins each Friday. These are Seal Lion Incentive Coins or SLICs for short. Your swimmer has been collecting them and they can  "spend" them at our SLIC stores for little prizes and treats. May 30th is our last SLIC Store of the season.

Kids should use up all their SLICs on May 30. Parents, please help us out to ensure this happens!

The shop will be open after Group 1 and before Group 2 from 4:15 pm - 5:00 pm in the courtyard at the pool.

Ribbon Boxes

Ribbons from the weekend's dual meet will be available in file boxes on the snack bar starting Tuesdays. There are slots sorted alphabetically by last name - please only remove your family's contents and instruct your kids to to the same. Ribbons are awarded to all 12 & Under swimmers in all heats and events. Ribbons have a sticker on the back with the event, time and place.

Look out for Best Time Ribbons! Swimmers collect Best Time ribbons and can then earn stars, which can be sewn onto the back of a sweatshirt.

Ribbon boxes may include:

• Colored Heat Place Ribbons - labeled with your child’s name and the heat details on the back.

• Yellow Best Time Ribbons - earned when a 14 & Under swimmer swims a faster time in a particular event than he or she has previously in the same season.

DQ Slips - a slip could mean a suggestion from a stroke and turn judge or a DQ. Treat these as learning opportunities… read the slip with your child, communicate with the coaches, and help your child learn how to improve their strokes.

• Swimmer of the Week Photos - will also be filed in the box after they are pulled from the board (do not remove them from the board yourself – thanks).

• Other paperwork – such as team photo order forms for next week's photo day.

Read more on our website on ribbons, best times and stras, DQs, and other awards. If you believe there is a mistake with your child's ribbons, please double check on the results sheets and write it on the clip board next to the ribbon box. We will look into it and correct any mistakes.

Reminder: Parking and Driver Safety

Please be aware of increased pedestrians and bikers around the Clubhouse, with the start of swim team. Be very careful when walking along and crossing Butterfield Road. Help teach our Sea Lions to be responsible pedestrians and bikers. If driving, slow down and focus. When dropping off your swimmer and/or parking for practice:

  • Do not park in front of the Clubhouse, this is strictly for drop off.
  • Park perpendicular (not parallel) in the gravel spaces to maximize space for other people
  • Please don’t ever park in the no parking zones across from the Clubhouse or in the handicapped parking spot in front of the Clubhouse - not even to wait for your swimmer after practice/if you remain in the car.
  • Please do not let your child "jump quickly out of the car" in the middle of the road. This is not safe! Please take the extra minute and use the drop off circle.
  • Use the dirt walkway in front of parked cars, and do not walk on the bike path on Butterfield, behind parked cars.
  • Do not block driveways or mailboxes. Please be respectful of our neighbors!
  • And again, please slow down, and watch out for Sea Lions and parents crossing Butterfield and riding and walking in the bike lanes. These Sea Lions are all of our children!

No Dogs

Please remember that the Sleepy Hollow Homes Association forbids dogs at the Clubhouse and pool area. Swim team families MAY NOT BRING DOGS to practices or meets.  Dogs may not be tied up or left outside the gates and fence in front of the Clubhouse ,  even if you are just running in to drop off your swimmer. Please help us abide by this SHHA rule and leave your dog at home. Thank you!

Donations

As a volunteer based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we rely on swimmer registration fees and generous donations to help us operate while maintaining and building upon our incredible community. Donations specifically help us do this while expenses and costs continue to rise. Donations to our team also help us fund the many FUN events that we host during the season where kids build camaraderie and get to know each other outside of the pool (movie nights, karaoke, casino night, etc).

Every dollar and donation counts! You can donate any amount to our team HERE, and/or donate/sponsor a specific Fun event HERE. Your donation will be tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
