All Stars Recap - June 14, 2025

The All Star meet, hosted by the Marinwood Waterdevils at Archie Williams High School, had the fastest swimmers in the league matched up on a day filled with fast times and record-breaking races. Sunny skies greeted swimmers and their families as they watched the nail-biting races, each swimmer pushing one another to swim their very best.

Frankie Parker (Girls 8&U) improved her Top Ten leaderboard time in the 25Y Breaststroke, moving her from 8th place to 4th with a time of 20.21, then went on to win her 100 I.M. Julia Hyer (Girls 9-10) won all three of her races – 50Y Breaststroke, 50Y Butterfly, and 100Y I.M. – with staggering best times in all three. Maeve Kastner (Girls 11-12) had a stellar day, improving her Top Ten place in the 50Y Butterfly from 7th place to 5th place with a time of 28.68, and placing 2nd in her 50Y Freestyle with a best time. Hailey Bennett (Girls 11-12) won her 50Y Freestyle and 100Y I.M., both with best times. Zoe Singleton (Girls 13-14) won both her 50Y Freestyle and 50Y Butterfly with best times, breaking the team record in Butterfly with a time of 27.23 - way to go Zoe! Congratulations, ladies!

Lucius Holt (Boys 9-10) was a standout, winning his 50Y Butterfly with a huge best time, and placing third in his 50Y Breaststroke and 100Y I.M. Baxter Dixon (Boys 11-12) won all three of his races with best times – the 50Y Freestyle, 50Y Breaststroke, and 100Y I.M. He broke the All Star record for his Breaststroke and improved his Top Ten time Leaderboard record with a time of 30.91, broke the 23 year old All Star record in his I.M., moved up the Top Ten Leaderboard in Freestyle from 7th place to 2nd place in a time of 24.87, and broke the team record in his I.M. with a time of 1:01.71, knocking Coach Paul out of the top spot. A Note for 8th Grade Families

There's so much that happens at the end of 8th grade, but graduating from the Sleepy Hollow Swim Team is not one of them! Your children are welcome members of the team for their entire high school journey.

What changes in high school: There's no practice for high school swimmers. There is also no registration fee or volunteer requirement (with the exception of All Stars and Champs if your swimmer swims).

What stays the same: You register for the team at the start of the season, you declare for a meet every Tuesday. Swimmers are encouraged to swim in the Saturday meets (after thier HS swim season has concluded) and in Champs. Your 12th grader will be honored at the end of the season Champs dinner celebration.

Fun Committee Updates

Friday, June 27: Pups Meet & Pancake Breakfast
While the entire team has been practicing and racing this season, we have little Sea Lions just starting out through the Pups program. On Friday, June 27 we get to see all of the Pups’ hard work pay off at their very own home meet where they race each other and get a little sense of what these Sea Lion meets are all about. Come to the pool and support our soon to be Sea Lions at this adorable and special event! We can cheer on these Pups as they swim and race each other. Come enjoy the last day of the season with pancakes, followed by a lot of cheering for this year's Pups. Breakfast is served for the 10&Unders starting at 8:00AM, followed by the 11&ups at 8:30 AM. The Pups meet starts at 9:00AM. There is no SHST practice that day.

Friday, June 27: Shave Down
All 11 & Ups are invited to come to a Shave Down & Pasta Potluck Dinner to get ready for Champs.  Shaving is a ritual swimmers perform before a big meet to reduce frictional drag and get into a fast mindset! And don’t worry, if you don’t want to shave, you don’t have to! Come have fun with your teammates and carb-load before Champs!

If you do want to shave, please bring your own razor and shaving cream. We'll have buckets of water and band-aids on hand in the unlikely event of a nick.

Dinner is a Pasta Potluck so each family is asked to send their 11+ swimmers with food to share. The Evite with all of the details is coming soon.

Champs Weekend

The Championship Meet, aka "Champs" is the final meet of the season, where every MSL team participates. No qualifications are necessary. The Sleepy Hollow Swim Team has won Champs for 29 years in a row and we have every intention of keeping this incredible streak going! Coach Mark asks that everyone come to this meet!

The Tidalwaves are hosting Champs this year on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Miwok Aquatic Center, IVC College of Marin. Warm ups will start at 7am, and the meet starts at 8:30am.

Declaring your swimmer for this meet will be a little different- the link to sign up will be emailed tomorrow morning. The deadline to declare your swimmer and pick his/her events is midnight on Monday, June 23rd (not Tuesday).

A parent is required to volunteer if you have a swimmer participating. This is in addition to your season commitment. The link to the volunteer sign up will be sent in tomorrow's separate email.

SHST will put together an Alumni Relay Team - 5 legs of 50 yards each. This is a scavenger hunt of team alumni from across the 5 decades. Contact Coach Mark or Erin Hill if you are interested!

Read the Marin IJ article about Champs, from Monday, June 9, 2025.

And lastly, our own Sleepy Hollow Champs Dinner will be held on Sunday, June 29th. Doors open at 4:30pm. This very special evening is a time for our entire team and their families to gather and celebrate our amazing season with great food, awards, and our end of the season video!  Tickets for this event are available for purchase now (here).
