HIGHLIGHTS & NEWS
Great Job at the Strawberry Meet - 5/06/2023!
A cool, damp morning greeted our Seal Lion swimmers Saturday, as they hosted the Strawberry Seals for their second swim meet of the season. Swimmers huddled under tents and umbrellas, hoping to avoid the morning drizzle. After a patriotic Dorian Betti national anthem, the relays were off to an exciting start! The Mixed 9-10 200Y Medley Relay came down to a nail-biting finish, with the Sea Lion team edging out the Seals by 0.24 seconds. In very exciting news, a new pool record was set for the Mixed 13-14 200Y Medley Relay in 1:53.64 (2007 record was 1:54.32)!! Woo-hoo! Congratulations to Hannah Reichley, Nolan Andrews, Holly Hovey, and Nate Greenberg for this accomplishment!
Nolan Andrews continued to climb the pool record board, moving from the fifth all time fastest boys 13-14 50Y backstroke to THIRD fastest, with a time of 27.11. Way to go, Nolan! The Seals gave our swimmers some tough competition, pushing the Sea Lions to achieve many best times (186!!!) and a victory; all the while exhibiting sportsmanship and class - cheering for teammates and Seals alike. Congratulations Sea Lions!

What's in those Ribbon Boxes?
Ribbons from dual meets are available in file boxes on the snack bar. There are slots sorted alphabetically by last name - please only remove your family's contents and instruct your kids to to the same. Ribbons are awarded to all 12 & Under swimmers in all heats and events. Ribbons have a sticker on the back with the event, time and place.
Ribbon boxes may include:
• Colored Heat Place Ribbons - labeled with your child’s name and the heat details on the back.
• Yellow Best Time Ribbons - will begin after this Saturday’s meet.
• DQ Slips - a slip could mean a suggestion from a stroke and turn judge or a DQ. Treat these as learning opportunities… read the slip with your child, communicate with the coaches, and help your child learn how to improve their strokes.
• Swimmer of the Week Photos - will also be filed in the box after they are pulled from the board (do not remove them from the board yourself – thanks).
• Other paperwork – team photo order forms for this week's photo day are available next to the ribbon boxes.
Read more on our website on ribbons, best times, DQs, and other awards.

SHST v. Orcas - 4/29/2023
A cool, foggy morning quickly warmed as swimmers and families descended upon the Sleepy Hollow pool. The volunteer crew did an amazing job of directing traffic, greeting guests, keeping our grounds clean, and providing us with hot coffee and baked potatoes! Sea Lions and Orcas swam their warm-ups in the pool, gearing up for their first dual meet of the season. Hailey Bennett gave us her sweet rendition of the National Anthem, and the mixed relays were underway. Big news out of this meet is the first record broken of the season! Nolan Andrews swam the 13/14 Boys 50 Backstroke in 27.43, which puts him as the Top 5th best all time, beating Coach Paul’s record on the Top Ten Board! Congratulations Nolan!
NEW TO THE TOP 10 BOARD: Nolan Andrews Boys 13/14 50y Backstroke at 27.43
Complete meet results are attached, and can also be found on the website.

Casino Night...
Thank you to all of our teenage volunteers for helping their younger teammates have a gaming good time!

Practice Meet!

The practice meet was a huge success - kids swam hard, parents got trained in thier volunteer jobs, and all had smiles on their faces. As you can see, MEETS REQUIRE ALL HANDS ON DECK! Each and every volunteer is crucial to the success of the meet. It is imperative that you arrive on time for your volunteer role. We are in this together!
It was a new experience for so many of our families and no doubt the newest and youngest swimmers had nerves going into their very first meet, but they absolutely crushed it! Great job Sea Lions. Here is a bit more about the meet and the results...
Crossing Flag Reminder
Please return the crossing flags to their bin on the telephone poles after each use. Flags have gone missing... which is a huge bummer as they are handmade and donated! Please help keep our kids safe as they cross busy Butterfield.
THANK YOU!
...to the McMaster/Dixon Family for sponsoring Ice Cream on Picture Day!
...and to the Tchakalov Family for donating to the team!
Cheers to our Bark Buddies and Cookie Delivery Helpers!
Thanks to our older swimmers for taking new swimmers under their flipper and welcoming them to the team!

- For more information, please read Getting Prepared for Practice.
Parking and Driver Safety
Please be aware of increased pedestrians and bikers around the Clubhouse, with the start of swim team. Be very careful when walking along and crossing Butterfield Road. Help teach our Sea Lions to be responsible pedestrians and bikers. If driving, slow down and focus. When dropping off your swimmer and/or parking for practice:
-
Do not park in front of the Clubhouse, this is strictly for drop off.
-
Park perpendicular (not parallel) in the gravel spaces to maximize space for other people.
-
Please don’t ever park in the no parking zones across from the Clubhouse or in the handicapped parking spot in front of the Clubhouse - not even to wait for your swimmer after practice/if you remain in the car.
-
Please do not let your child "jump quickly out of the car" in the middle of the road. This is not safe! Please take the extra minute and use the drop off circle.
-
Use the walkway on Butterfield from Katrina Ct. to the clubhouse.
-
Remind your swimmer(s) not to walk behind parked cars.
-
Do not block driveways or mailboxes. Please be respectful of our neighbors!
-
And again, please slow down, and watch out for Sea Lions and parents crossing Butterfield and riding and walking in the bike lanes. These Sea Lions are all of our children!
Bikes
As we partner with the Sleepy Hollow Homes Assocation to increase safety along Butterfield Road, we encourage families to bike to and from practice, if your child is ready for this. As a community, we are working to decrease the number of cars along Butterfield Road. If you bike, please remember:
- Please use the bike racks outside of the main black gate and do not block the Fire Zone/No Parking area.
- Don’t forget to bring bike locks! SHST and SHHA are not responsible for lost or stolen bikes.
No Dogs
