A native of Colorado a High School All American, Patten earned a
scholarship to compete at Southern Methodist University. He was a
five-time NCAA division I All American. He was a high school All
American all three years of his high school career. During his age
group career Patten set over 100 Colorado State Records, competed
in five Jr. Nationals and Two Sr. Nationals and the 1980 Olympic
Trials. Patten accepted a scholarship to swim for Southern
Methodist University with Coach George McMillion. While at SMU
Patten was a five-time NCAA All American and represented the United
States at the 1982 World Championships. In the 1983 college season
Patten swam the butterfly on the 4X100 medley NCAA Championship
Relay, which set the American and US Open record. This record was
made possible by a 51 second breaststroke swum by Olympian Steve
Lundquist. Patten said the freestyler, John Spaulding, and I had a
race plan, “don’t false start.”
After college Patten continued to compete and represented the USA
at the Pan Pacific games in 1987. While in college, Patten began
coaching masters for The Lone Star Masters Swim Club. In 1999
Patten was Co-Founder of the Dallas Aquatic Masters or DAM. As a
master swimmer he has set numerous world and national records in
several events including the 200 butterfly, the 400, 800, 1500
freestyle, and 10K swim. Patten is an experienced open water
swimmer and has been the overall winner of the Waikiki Roughwater
Swim, the Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim, and the Lake Minnetonka 5-mile
Open Water National Championship Swim. He was named United States
Masters Swimming coach of the year in 2010. Patten is
finishing his twenty-first season as the Head Coach for The
Hockaday School.
Steve is a native of California (Mission Viejo), he was a 4-time
High School All American, National High School Champion and Record
holder (100 Backstroke - 1980). In college he was a 3-time NCAA
All-American at UCLA (1981)& SMU (1984 & 1985). On the
national scene he was a 3-time US National Champion (200
Backstroke)and represented US on various national teams including
the 1980 Olympic Team & 1982 World Championship team.
Steve has been involved with Masters swimming since 1987 with
Dallas Aquatic Masters, an Orlando Masters Team, and
currently Pegasus Aquatic Masters. He personally does various
open water swims, preferring the tropical climates of Cayman &
Maui, for his swims.
On the professional side, he has just recently parted with his
employer of 15 years, EmCare (an Emergency Medicine Practice
Management Co) and was the Director of Financial Planning &
Analysis. And he continues to have a Medical Consulting (Financial)
company since 2007.
Steve lives in Lakewood. He has two boys Andrew and Thomas. When he
is not coaching masters swimming he is often seen on the golf
course. As a result of his passion, for masters coaching and
volume, he has been referred to as "Coach Yell" from
time-to-time.
Janie is from Glastonbury, Connecticut and started swimming at age 8. She swam for Baylor University and then attended Baylor Medical Center. Her swimming career really took off when she joined Dallas Aquatic Masters in 2005. Janie has been very competitive in Masters Swimming and is consistently ranked in the USMS Top Ten in butterfly and freestyle spring events. She has swum on several USMS and Masters world record-breaking relays. Janie is a nurse anesthetist at Presbyterian Hospital. She started coaching Masters in 2014 and joined Pegasus Aquatic Masters in 2020.
He learned to swim at the age of four and excelled in several youth sports before committing to swim on his high school team in Ohio. After two years in Ohio his family moved to Michigan where Carl was captain of the Owosso Trojans swim team his senior year. He also participated on the syncronized swim team. As a young adult he moved to Dallas for business and joined Masters swimming for fitness and became a better swimmer than he was in high school. He has competed in USMS competitions in the sprint events. Through Masters swimming he learned open water swimming and has traveled to many tropical destinations competing in open water events. Carl is certified in the USMS Adult Learn to Swim Program and has taught swimming to adults with a fear of water to swim. Carl met his wife, Laurie, through Masters swimming, and is the owner of Dunlap Masonry Products, and has three adult children.
Dirk is from Dallas, Texas and is a graduate of the Univeristy
of North Texas with a degree in elementary education. He has more
than 25 years of coaching and teaching experience and currently
teaches swim lessons at The Dallas Country Club and coaches the
adult Pegasus Masters swimmers. Dirk helped coach the St.
Mark's varsity team to six consecutive SPC Championships from
2009-2015. He was ranked sixth in the nation in his age group in
2007, took first place at the Capitol of Texas Open Water Swim in
2008 and has competed in multiple triathlons and distance ocean
swims.
He specializes in instructing novice through experienced athletes
as well as those who have special needs or accommodations. His
instruction expertise is stroke mechanics, efficiency, training
tips, proper breathing, concentration and discipline, stamina,
confidence, overcoming fear of water (any age), stress reduction,
and muscle toning.
Marylyn is a native of Dallas, Texas and grew up swimming with the Dallas Mustangs and at Parish Episcopal. She was part of 4x TAPPS state championship teams at Parish and won 8 individual state titles. Marylyn went on to swim at the University of Texas at Austin and was part of 2x Big-12 Championship teams. She was also named to the All-Academic Big-12 first team, Big-12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, and the University of Texas Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Marylyn competed at the 2012 US Olympic Trials in the 100m Butterfly.
Her coaching career started when she was a swim instructor and coached the Royal Oaks Country Club swim team (ages 5+) for 7 summers during high school and college. Since then she has been coaching Masters swimming since 2016 and is also the Assistant Varsity Swim Coach at The Hockaday School. In addition to coaching and doing social media/marketing for Pegasus she also works full-time in advertising.
Billy is originally from Penn Hills, Pennslyvania, and came to
Dallas to swim for SMU. He was captain of the SMU Swim Team in 1979
and was a 3 time NCAA Division I All-American and a 1976 Olympic
Trial finalist. He was 5-time member of the USA National Team and
was inducted into the Pennslyvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He
is the owner of the White Rock Construction, Inc. and is married to
Carol and they have four children. Billy started coaching Masters
swimming in 2009 with Dallas Aquatic Masters and joined the Pegasus
coaching staff in 2020.
Ashley grew up in Mason, Ohio. She was team captain of her high school team junior and senior year, and helped her team to a pair of State Championships. She also swam club with the Mason Manta Rays. She went on to swim for Southern Methodist University where she earned the newcomer of the year award and was apart of the AAC All-Academic Team.
Liana was born in Mountain View, CA., and started swimming competitively at age four. As an age-grouper, she was a consistent Junior National and National qualifier in mid-distance and distance freestyle events, winning the 200 Free at the Alabama State H.S. Championship. Liana swam distance freestyle events for SMU 1985-1989 and was Team Captain 1988-1989. She starting coaching Masters swimming in 2001 at Dallas Aquatic Masters and joined the Pegasus coaching staff in 2020. Liana specializes in breathing and stroke fundamentals for beginning swimmers and distance and open water training.
Martina was one of the leading female swimmers in the world. She
represented her native country of Slovakia at
five consecutive Olympic Games (1992-2008) and many World and
European Championships. She is a 2-time
Olympic silver medalist in 100m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle,
missing the gold by mere 0.08 seconds. In addition,
she reached the Olympic final four times. She rarely failed to win
a medal at a major championship. She won total
of 67 individual medals: 2 Olympic silver medals, 22 medals from
the World Championships and 43 medals from
the European Championships. She broke 3 World, 16 European and 207
Slovak national records. She also won 105
gold medals at the FINA World Cups and become the overall winner of
its World Cup Series three times. She is also
4-time US National Champion and 10-time US Open Champion.
In 1995, Martina accepted an athletic scholarship at SMU in Dallas.
In only four and half years, she completed two
degrees, a Bachelor’s in Business (1998) and a Master’s
in Economics (2000). The 1999 NCAA Swimmer of the Year
and Honda Award Winner for Swimming & Diving, Martina
dominated the collegiate swimming in the late 1990s.
She won 10 individual NCAA titles during her career at SMU, the
second winningest in the NCAA history. Overall,
she won 14 NCAA titles as a Mustang, including four straight 200
free titles. Martina ended her collegiate career as
a 25-time All-American, winning amazing 26 conference (SWC &
WAC) titles. Some of her school records are yet to
be broken. She was inducted into SMU Hall of Fame in 2008.
Upon graduation from SMU in 1999, she signed an endorsement
contract with TYR Sports and became the face of
the brand for 8 years. During that time, she taught stroke clinics
and inspired many young swimmers across the
US. She also served as a member of the FINA Athletes Commission for
8 years.
She retired from competitive swimming in 2012. During summers she
runs her successful swim camps in Slovakia.
She coached for Dallas Mustangs, teaches private stroke lessons and
coaches for Pegasus Masters. She has two
young children, daughter Karolina who swims competitively, winning
the 2021 Texas Age Group Championships.
Her son Michal also swims competitively and enjoys playing tennis.
She is married to Martin Valko, a partner at
Dallas-based immigration law firm of Chavez & Valko,
LLP.

Lynn grew up swimming in Tucson, Arizona. She attended
college at Arizona State and was an All-American in 1973 as the
freestyle leg on their 200-medley relay team. She has
lived in Dallas since 1977 and has been swimming masters since
1981. Lynn is a Certified Level 3 Masters coach, with special
focus on fine tuning the aspects of sprint training. This has
paid off well, yielding multiple Top Ten, American and World
Records. Her coaching style is one that encourages FUN
… and leaving each workout with both a since of
accomplishment and desire to come back for more!
Sarah grew up in Dallas, started swimming for the KC Sharks at the age of seven, and swam every summer until she was 17. She began coaching swimming at 14. Sarah walked on to the Trinity University Track and Field team and learned high jump. She helped the team win two SCAC Championships and had three top three finishes at conference in high jump. Her senior year, she was on the NCAA Division III All Academic Track and Field Team and ended the season ranked 26 th in the nation for high jump. She then got back to swimming and began coaching for the KayCee Club in 2016: Arctic Sharks in the winter, KC Sharks in the summer, and White Rock Masters year-round. She has coached and taught swimming lessons to people ages 3 and up. She received her MFA in Studio Art from the University of Kansas in 2021 and has taught printmaking classes at KU and UNT. She currently teaches printmaking at Dallas College and continues to make art. She has been swimming with Pegasus Aquatic Masters since 2021 and began coaching again in 2024.
Kirk grew up in San Diego. After exceling in age group swimming he head to Austin, Texas to swim for Eddie Reese and Kris Kubik at the University of Texas. Under the program, Kirk enjoyed great success winning 3 team and 3 individual national championships, become a 16 time All American and achieving a berth on the 1988 Olympic team in the 200 breaststroke. In 1990, Kirk held his highest ranking as second in the world in the 200 breaststroke and third in the world in the 100 breaststroke after an outstanding Goodwill games showing. He is a ASCA level 2;3 certified coach as well as a USMS level2 certified coach and started coaching with Pegasus in 2022.
Noah grew up in East Dallas where he did summer league swimming for many years before switching his focus to competitive rock climbing. He competed at a high level, winning the North American championship for speed climbing in his age group at age 11. At 15, he made the switch back to swimming, joining the Woodrow Wilson High School team. During his high school career, he broke DISD records in the 50 and the 100 free, competed at state, and swam for Mustangs Nationals. He continued his swim career with St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York, as a sprint specialist and graduated in 2019 with a business management degree. He returned to Dallas, starting his own business as a personal trainer and swim coach. Noah was assistant swim coach at Cistercian Preparatory School for three years and currently is head swim coach at Alcuin School. He loves sharing his knowledge of the sport with people of all ages and currently coaches for both age group as well as Masters swimmers. He still swims and competes for the Pegasus Aquatic Masters team and sees no end in sight for his lifelong love of the sport. Noah started coaching for Pegasus in 2024.
Professional swimmer, originally from Slovakia. Beginning her collegiate career at SMU, made an immediate impact by winning the AAC Conference title in the 200 breaststroke and qualifying for NCAA; also SMU awarded her as the Newcomer of the Year. Shortly after freshman year, she decided to redshirt in order to focus on making the Olympic Team.
After the Tokyo Olympics got postponed due to Covid-19, Andrea transferred to NC State University. At the 2021 NCAA Championships, placing 4th in the 200 breaststroke and 7th in 100 breaststroke, helped NC State to finish 2nd overall. During her time at NC State, she earned four All-American honors while graduating with a major in Sport Management and a minor in Psychology.
Internationally, represented Slovakia at the Tokyo Olympics, competing in both 100 and 200 breaststroke. Additionally, two-time World Cup bronze medalist, a European Championships finalist, finished in the top 10 at the World Championships, and multiple-time Slovak national record holder. Andrea has been a member of the Slovak National Team since 2011 and has competed in numerous international competitions, including EYOF, Junior Europeans, Junior Worlds, University Games, European and World Championships.
Andrea joined the Pegasus coaching staff in 2025.
Originally from Cancún, Mexico, Andrea grew up swimming
competitively and represented
Mexico at several international events, including the Junior World
Championships
(Singapore 2015, Indianapolis 2017) and the Youth Olympic Games in
2018. She competed
in NCAA Division I swimming at the University of Arkansas from 2018
to 2023 where she
earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Business
Administration and a Master’s in
Business Analytics. Most recently, Andrea represented Mexico
at the World Aquatics
Championships in Fukuoka (2023) and Doha (2024). She moved to
Dallas in 2024 and
currently swimming with the Pegasus Pros. She joined the coaching
staff in 2025.
