Our Coaches

 Emily Andrews

 Head Coach

 

Emily is very excited to be back working with the incredible swimmers at Walnut Creek Swim Club (WCSC) leading the team again as Head Coach. She began coaching Walnut Creek Competitive Swim Clinics in 2018, and became a WCSC coach in 2021. Emily was the director of the beginning swim team program at Woodlands for 14 years. She has been a swim instructor for the past 28 years, and is a former lifeguard (still certified), pool manager, and swim school owner/director. Emily proudly swam on Woodlands Swim Team for 15 years, and was a swimmer for Northgate High School. Emily has taught in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District for 20 years, and she was awarded Teacher of the Year for MDUSD in 2019. She currently teaches fourth and fifth grade STEM at Strandwood, Highlands, and Fair Oaks Elementary Schools. Fun facts: Emily’s favorite swim meet since she was a 6&U swimmer has always been the Walnut Creek All-City Meet! She loves to travel and plays several musical instruments. Emily is looking forward to another phenomenal and memorable swim season with the amazing WCSC families! GO Walnut Creek!!


 Tyler Fonseca

 Assistant Coach

Tyler is excited to be returning to WCSC for his fourth year of coaching. Growing up swimming at WCSC shaped some of his favorite memories, and the summers spent with teammates and coaches played a huge role in his love for the sport. Tyler is grateful for the opportunity to help create that same positive, fun, and motivating environment for this season’s swimmers. During the offseason, Tyler works as a Physical Education teacher at St. Francis of Assisi, is currently enrolled at DVC, and works as a personal trainer. He is looking forward to another great summer full of growth, teamwork, and accomplishments at WCSC!


 Katie Hickey

 Assistant Coach

Katie is so excited to be back coaching at WCSC! She has been very involved in rec swimming her whole life. Katie was a swimmer for 15 years at Woodlands and coached there for 2 years. Katie is proud to say that she is now a coach at WCSC!! Currently, Katie attends San Diego State University, studying Kinesiology (Pre-Physical Therapy). She is also on the SDSU Club Swim Team and serves as President of her sorority! Katie loves WCSC and rec swimming, and she can't wait for another amazing season. GO WCSC!


 Josie Croy

 Assistant Coach

Josie could not be more excited to start coaching at WCSC this summer! She grew up swimming rec at Woodlands for 15 years and was involved in coaching there for the last couple of years. Josie is currently a Liberal Studies major at Cal Poly SLO, studying to become an elementary teacher! She absolutely loves rec swimming and can't wait for a great summer at WCSC! Fun fact: Coach Emily was her very first swim coach and taught her how to swim when she was 3! Go WCSC!


 Makenna Kress

 Assistant Coach

Makenna is really excited to coach at WCSC this summer! She is currently a freshman at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where she is studying elementary education. She has been part of rec swimming since she was five years old. For the past four years, Makenna has coached the Kermit program (swimmers 5 & under) at Woodlands, and she has spent the past three years as a junior coach for the 6 & Under and 7/8 age groups. Swim team has always been one of her favorite environments: the energy at meets, age group outings, and all the spirit events. Her favorite part, though, is watching swimmers learn, grow, and gain confidence throughout the season. She is looking forward to getting to know all of the swimmers and being part of the WCSC family! See you on the pool deck!


 Bella Fonseca

 Assistant Coach

Bella is thrilled to be back with WCSC as an assistant coach this season. This is her second year in this position, and she has also spent several seasons helping as a junior coach. Bella swam for the team for 11 years, and the memories made here at Walnut Creek have been some of her best. She is currently a student at DVC and a member of their swim team. She is excited to share her love for swimming and WCSC with all of the swimmers this summer. She can't wait to see you all!


 Lily Sanchez

 Assistant Coach

Lily is so excited to be back coaching this summer! She has been a part of the WCSC family since she was 4 years old and has spent every summer of her life on the pool deck with Walnut Creek. She loved every minute of it, and she can't wait to dive into another amazing season. This will be her second year as an assistant coach; she was also a junior coach for many years while swimming and coached volleyball for a few years as well. She is currently a student at Cal State Fullerton, and she can’t wait to see all the swimmers again this summer! Go WCSC!


 Abby Sanchez

 Assistant Coach (Part-time)

Abby will be helping the team on a part-time basis, and she is excited to stay involved! She began swimming for Walnut Creek Swim Club when she was six and has spent every summer on the pool deck with this team since; it is safe to say WCSC has been a very big part of her life. During her time on the team, Abby was a multiple-time county qualifier and holds two team relay records. This will be her sixth year coaching, and she has loved it even more than she loved swimming herself! She graduated from Cal Poly, SLO in June of 2021 and teaches elementary school. Abby is so happy to be able to combine her passion for teaching and her passion for swimming all in one over the summer. GO WCSC!
