Coaches’ Update:

We had an exciting week with a visit from two time gold medal winning Olympian & American Record breaker Tom Shields, a fantastic movie/froyo outing with our 11-12 age group, a great (and hot!) meet against the Rudgear Rats, and a two-day meet at the 60th Annual Woodlands Invitational!

We would like to thank WCSC Mom, Kristie Courtney, for helping connect our team with Tom Shields for his awesome clinic with us last Thursday and Friday! The swimmers learned some excellent skills from Tom, and everyone was pumped up to have the experience of holding Olympic gold medals. Fun fact: Did you know that six Olympic athletes came from WCSC as well as the president and CEO of USA Swimming? Amazing!

Our 11-12 outing to mini-golf had to make a last minute pivot when we all arrived and the course was closed due to the extreme heat. We hustled down to the movie theater for a showing of “Inside Out 2,” and absolutely loved it! We finished off our fun afternoon with some tasty frozen yogurt!

Walnut Creek Swim Club was honored to attend the 60th Annual Woodlands Invitational again this year. This elite meet hosts 14 teams from around Contra Costa County. Thank you to all of our swimmers who were able to compete this past weekend for both individual events and relays. And big thanks to the Cabacungan family who cheered loud for all WSCS swimmers all weekend and photographed all the action.

Please check the OnDeck social feed and Instagram (@wcsc_news) for individual finals result shout-outs this week. Prelims, finals, & relay results can be found on Meet Mobile.

This week we are looking forward to two social events with our 13-14 outing to Hurricane Harbor & our 13&Up dinner, as well as our last two dual meets of the season (Wednesday at Larkey Sharks and Saturday at home vs. LMYA). We will be honoring our 18 year-olds as they will have their final home meet swim of their rec swimming career on Saturday morning. Please gather around the pool to cheer them all on!

Please check the OnDeck Social Feed prior to each meet. We almost always need to make relay changes before a meet due to last minute illness or emergencies, so it would be helpful if you could check this to see if your child is added to a relay, or moving up from a B to an A team. The OnDeck Social Feed is where you will always find information about warm-up times as well.

Please be sure to check your family folders this week for ribbons from REST, and medals/rosettes from Woodlands Invite.

While Coach Alex is on vacation, please direct any emails you would normally send him to me, Emily, at [email protected]

Finally, we would like to thank all of you for your kindness and generosity in all of the coaches' appreciation gifts, food, beverages, cards, etc. that you have provided us this season. We are equally appreciative to all of you for the time you all give as volunteers so that our swimmers can create these lifelong memories at the pool. As you all know, the four of us are full-time teachers, and there is nowhere else we would rather be on our summer “break” than spending time daily with our Walnut Creek Swim Club Family.

15&Up FAMILIES.  You’re up next.   Let’s finish strong! This will be our last week of coach appreciation leading up to Conference. During the week of July 22nd it’s your turn to make sure our coaches feel that WCSC love!   Please have your kids make a card, write a letter or bring a token of gratitude to practice for, Coach Abby, Coach Emily, Coach Alex and Coach Tyler and don’t forget the fabulous junior coaches.  Click here for a  sign-up genius and sign up to bring a special treat for them and/or our junior coaches.  Short on time…Venmo @Sawyer-Austin (last digits 5484) with the memo “15&Up coaches appreciation” and I will put it towards a collective gift. Swim-A-Thon:

Thursday, July 18th during your regular practice time is our Swim-A-Thon hosted by our Nightriders. Our goal is $2,500 to raise money for our Nightriders to support all the events/activities (Big Buddy/Little Buddy Picnic, TPing, Power Cookies, Posters, Spirit and more) they do for the team. If every swimmer raises at least $20, we will meet our goal. Go to our home page to track our team progress, set up your donation page and donate. Checks made out to WCSC and cash are also accepted the day of the Swim A Thon! The race is on now!!!

Nightrider Updates:

The Nightriders are coming! On the Thursday evening before Conference, July 25th, a group of nightriders will be visiting the homes of Conference attendees to drop off some special goodies to wish our younger swimmers luck at Conference.

If you are making plans to join multiple families together at a single house, please email [email protected] ASAP so we can plan accordingly. If you will not be home or will only be home during a certain time frame, please also send an email. Last minute changes are very difficult to accommodate. We appreciate you planning early so we can be efficient in our deliveries.

We know it’s important to all of you that these deliveries happen before bedtime, and we are working really hard to make sure we’re delivering in a better time frame this year.

New Families:

Congratulations new families! Only two more weeks of the regular season to go! I hope it was more fun than you anticipated and you have made new friends during the last few months. There is a lot going on at the end of the season so please be sure to read all of the emails thoroughly. If you’ve made it this far then you probably don’t need a reminder.

Nightriders will be visiting all of the swimmers attending Conference and delivering their shirts, power cookies and signs. Please communicate to the Nightriders (see their update) if you will not be home or will be at another family's house. This is a feat the Nightriders pull off every year and parents making last minute changes disrupts their well orchestrated plans.
