Coaches’ Update:

Hi WCSC Families! We’re continuing a focus on butterfly this week, so please re-read last week’s newsletter as a review for how to support your child with their progress in fly. This reminder is for families of new and younger swimmers: when your child swims butterfly, please remind them prior to racing that they must touch the wall with two hands at the same time (simultaneously), or they will be disqualified. This same rule applies for breaststroke (our breast focus begins next week). The coaches have seen some excellent focus and progress this past month, and we look forward to watching our swimmers shine at Time Trials!

Time Trials is coming and it’s time to GET EXCITED! This is a morning where each swimmer has an opportunity to swim all individual events so that we can obtain seed times for them. Please note that we will not be swimming individual medley (I.M.) during Time Trials. We will, however, run 6&U and 7-8 relays after we have finished our individual events (Free, Breast, Back, Fly). This gives our shepherding team an opportunity to practice taking relay teams to the correct side of the pool, and it gives our swimmers some relay practice before our first dual meet a few days later! Is your family going to be on TEAM BLUE or TEAM RED?! Please sign out of the meet by this Sunday, May 7th (earlier if you can!!) if your swimmer(s) will NOT be attending Time Trials. We need final numbers so that we can evenly split our team in half, and can let families know which squad they’ll be on!

Please note that at practice, no swimmer can enter the water prior to 4:00 p.m. This includes playing around on the steps as well. Our team has a contract with the City of Walnut Creek, and we need to adhere to its guidelines. Thanks for reminding your swimmers about this!

Last week you learned about the WCSC Coaches’ favorite swim events, and next week we’re sharing our favorite swim team memories. This week we’re letting you know our birthdays and colleges!

Katie- March 25th, San Diego State (Kinesiology, Pre-Physical Therapy)

Lily- July 12th, CSU, Fullerton (Sociology)

Bella- June 8th, Diablo Valley College (Sociology)

Tyler- June 20th, Diablo Valley College (Kinesiology)

Emily- August 17th, Alumna: Chico State (Liberal Studies & English, Multiple Subject Teaching Credential)

Have an awesome week and GO WCSC!

We are looking for three volunteers to lead important jobs at the All City Meet.

1.    Manage ads/shout-outs:  monitor emails from companies paying for an ad in our program or families sending shout-outs (a personal note to a swimmer in our meet program).

2.    Graphic designer: design our All City Logo and help put together our meet program.

3.    Parking Coordinator:  helps hand out parking passes and manages parking lot and marshals during the 2-day meet.

These lead jobs satisfy your All City Weekend volunteer hours. Reach out before these roles are filled. Please send an email to [email protected] if you’re interested. Robert Martin (All City Director)
