COACHES’ UPDATE:
Dear WCSC Families,
We have officially started our meet season and what fun we have had! We look forward to our upcoming home dual meet on Wednesday against Gehringer Park, and the “Backwards Penguin” Tri-Meet against Pleasant Hill Aquatics and Moraga Country Club on Saturday! That meet will run our regular events in backward order, relays will be mixed ages, and our 15-18s have the opportunity to swim 50s!
I have received some questions about how to understand a relay as written in our meet programs. These are great questions and I hope the pictures below will help as visuals. Legs 1 and 3 (first column) of 6&U and 7-8 relays will start at the starting block side of the pool, and legs 2 and 4 (second column) will start at the opposite side of the pool. Each leg of the relay in our 9&Up age groups will begin at the starting block side of the pool.
Once you hear a whistle signaling swimmers to step up on the block for their race, that is also a signal that we need everyone behind the blocks absolutely quiet. Thank you for reminding your swimmers about this.
If you are unable to make it to a meet for any reason and you did not make the sign-out deadline, or your child has unfortunately fallen ill, PLEASE send an email to me at [email protected] as well as Erica Gilmore and Brian Wrightson at [email protected]. Having a parent or swimmer verbally tell us during swim practice that they can’t make it to a meet can be forgotten by a coach who is busy with swimmers. We appreciate all families following our deadlines as we have entry submission deadlines that we need to make on our end. There is a lot of work that goes into preparing for these meets and any last minute changes can be a hassle, especially with rearranging relays. So we thank you again for understanding that families need to commit or decline from meets by the deadline. If your child needs to leave early or arrive late, please write that in the notes.
This week and next week our swimmers will be working on Individual Medley (I.M.) during practice. This is an event we have in meets for 7&Ups that is 100 yards in this order: Fly, Back, Breast, Free. 6&U will review all four of the strokes this week.
Please note: I.M. is not a requestable event for dual meets—entries are made at coaches’ discretion based on limited slots per pool. If your child is entered, we ask that they swim it, as it takes a spot from another swimmer. If your swimmer would like to swim I.M. The All City Meet is the meet to sign-up for that event as one of the three individual events.
Thank you and GOOOOO WCSC! ❤️💙
Coach Emily
MEETS:
The deadline to sign out of a meet is one week prior. We take a lot of time to make sure all of the swimmers are entered correctly. If you will not make it after the deadline let Coach Emily and Directors (Erica & Brian) know via email [email protected] & [email protected].

Walnut Creek All City Meet (our team’s fundraising meet)- June 28-29
Walnut Creek Swim Conference Championship Meet- July 26-27
Contra Costa County Swim Championship- August 2-3 Swimmers must achieve a county qualifying gold star time in at least one individual event, or be invited to be a member in a gold star qualified relay. Info here: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/recwcscwcsc/page/events/county-qual-times
JOBS:
We have two Snack Shack volunteer positions that NEED to be filled for our Wednesday Meet and a BBQ volunteer for ALL of our remaining home meets. Our Snack Shack and BBQ leads do an incredible job planning, shopping and preparing food, but they can’t do it alone! All Snack Shack sales help cover pool fees, our low registration fees are directly related to the success of their efforts. If you can help, please email [email protected] ASAP. Thank you!
If you have NOT signed up for your 6 season volunteer jobs contact us as soon as possible to make sure you are going to make that commitment work or you will be charged for any remaining jobs.
