Coaches’ Update:

Dear WCSC Families,

Happy first week of summer practices! We’re excited for two dual meets this week against teams in our conference: Indian Valley and Woodlands! Let’s bring that WCSC spirit like we always do!

A few things to note:

  1. At meets, we need swimmers and parents to stand back, BEHIND the timers, until a swimmer is called forward for their heat. There are too many swimmers in the way of timers who are trying to get accurate times of those completing their current race.
  2. I am only able to enter swimmers in TWO individual events at dual meets. The tri-meet was a special circumstance and one reason it was a great event! If your child is one of the few in their age group swimming I.M., that can be the only third event. As a reminder, I.M. entries are coaches’ discretion. Your swimmer has an opportunity to swim three individual events at All City and Conference.
  3. You will be able to see events chosen for your child in SEMotion even if I am currently working on or am unfinished with meet entries. Nothing is finalized until the meet program is sent out. All events are selected by coaches and requests are not guaranteed. There are many factord that go into selecting events for 180 plus swimmers.
  4. If your child is unable to swim at All City, please decline now. We will not be able to do last minute relay changes at this large meet.
  5. It’s completely normal for a swimmer to not always drop time at each meet. Many factors (weather, sleep/rest, food, hydration, focus, etc.) can play into a swimmer not dropping time, and it’s okay. With continued practice and preparation, a consistent routine, and goal setting, the drops will come.

Check out the star board on the side of the shed to see stars achieved and to help your swimmers create goals for themselves! We have red, white, blue, and gold star times! Swimmers who achieve a gold star time will receive a special cap!

TOP GUNS 💪🏼 and Swimmers of the Meet: Congratulations to these swimmers! If you were not at the very start of practice last week to hear your name announced, please find Coach Emily to receive your special pin! We are so proud of our hard-working swimmers!

Away meets will vary depending on our team location designated by the opposing swim team.

All City meet jobs will be open for sign-ups on Sunday, June 15 at 9:00am.  This is the team’s biggest fundraiser and all families are required to participate (including those with 15-18s swimmers; the only exception being those families who have season buyout). All families must work one set-up (Friday evening) OR takedown (Sunday afternoon) shift and two 4-hour (or one 8-hour) shift on Saturday and/or Sunday. Jobs are first-come, first-serve so sign up early to get the jobs and days that you want!

Please read the job descriptions and know what you are signing up for.  There will be jobs unique to this meet such as clerk of the course (checking off, seating and accompanying swimmers to lanes for their races), hospitality, in addition to pool and parking marshals (to keep all patrons and swimmers from entering/exiting areas they shouldn’t be in).

If you will not be attending the All City meet, please sign up for your required job slots and find subs to cover for your jobs.  The sub list on our website has been updated and can be found here.  Any questions, please email [email protected].  Thank you!

Pool Behavior

We received some important feedback from the pool manager that we’d like to share with you as a reminder to help keep everyone safe during practice.

Please make sure younger children—especially toddlers and those just learning to walk—are kept at least six feet back from the edge of the pool during practice times. We’ve had several close calls with little ones getting too close, and it only takes one slip for an accident to happen.

Swimmers should not play on the tarp rollers or lane rope rollers, as they are not designed for climbing or sitting. Please remind any kids you see playing on them to stop.

Additionally, if your child is going to be at the pool outside of their practice time they need to have a responsible adult supervising them. We’ve seen swimmers running on the grassy hill with sticks and heading straight toward the concrete seating area. This creates a real risk of injury—either from tripping, falling on the concrete, or getting hurt by the stick. Coaches are not monitoring swimmers that are not in the pool. We really need parents to help make sure everyone stays safe.

Thanks for helping us maintain a safe and fun environment for all our swimmers and families.

All City:

The All City Director, Robert Martin, will be sending out a detailed email with everything you need to know about the All City Swim Meet. It will include information about job sign-ups, how to register your swimmer for events, parking passes, shout-outs, and more.

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year—and it’s always a great time! Our team of around 120 families comes together to host a meet for over 1,300 swimmers. It’s an incredible effort, and we’re proud to carry on a tradition that has been part of Walnut Creek swim culture since 1987. Our All City team has been working hard the last few months to plan this event. It takes all of us working together to pull it off each year.
