Who do I call/contact if my child cannot make it to a meet due to illness?

How many events will my child swim in a swim meet?

Each SST swimmer is eligible to swim “officially” in two individual events and one relay.  A swimmer's participation in a meet relay is dictated by the number of swimmers in attendance.

Who chooses what events my swimmer will be in?

The coaches make the decision on what events your swimmer participates in at a meet.  On occasion throughout the season, a swimmer (not the parent) can request a meet event.  Exactly what events a swimmer is assigned is strictly a coach’s decision.  SST coaches place swimmers in events based on previous times, a swimmer’s ability to compete “legally” in that specific event, as well as the overall strength of the team in which SST is competing against.

How can swimmers be Disqualified?

Swimmers will be disqualified (or DQ’ed) if they do not make a two-hand touch in the breaststroke and in the butterfly.  In the backstroke, a swimmer must stay on their back to the finish.  More than 2 false starts is considered a DQ.  A flutter kick in the breaststroke or butterfly is a DQ. A swimmer's  arms in the butterfly must be above the water and must enter the water at the same time.  In the breaststroke, after the dive, a swimmer is permitted only one underwater pull and one underwater kick.  These are the most frequent reasons for a disqualification.

How are Ribbons awarded?

SST awards ribbons to point-winners (up to 6th place) during the dual meet season for all swimmers.  Swimmers 12&U who do not place in the top 6 will receive a participant ribbon for every event in which they swim.  Ribbons will be available for pick up this year at the end of the season. Ribbons will be distributed at our year end banquet.

How do I find out if my swimmer has qualified for “A” Championships?

Swimmers’ individual times will be posted on the website within a week after each dual swim meet.  There are cut-off times to qualify for “A” Championships which are based on the previous year’s Winter Suburban Swim League Championship times.  These times are posted on our website under "Events and Meet Info - A Cut-off Times."  If your swimmer has posted a time equal to or lower than any of the posted A Cut-off Times, your swimmer will going to “A” Championships.  All swimmers who do not qualify for the WSSL "A" Championships will attend the WSSL "B" Championships meet.
