Patrick Conway

Good Afternoon Stinger Nation!

A few updates as we head into the weekend.  Updates to Osborne Pool, now known to us as “The Hive” are underway. The Hive will be swim team ready by our first practice, which will be 6/3/2024. Registration is open and can be accessed here. https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/recwsst/page/register-here

Registration will close on June 5th

Practices will be M-F 8:30 am – 10am for 10u, and 10am-11:30am for 11 and up. Details on the Willoughby City Pool bus will be coming soon. The city has said they will transport swimmers from Euclid Ave pool to The Hive for all morning practices.  We will also continue to have practice Tuesday and Thursday nights at 5:30 – 7pm

Coaching update. Returning to the team to defend the Division 1 Championship are; Cindy Myers entering her 6th year as head coach, Séamus Garry and Ella Anderson entering their 3rd coaching year, and Oliver Curwen for his second year as Stingers Coach and fresh off leading the Lake County West End Wildcats to their 3rd consecutive NE Ohio YMCA title.  Leaving us are Maria O’Keeffe who begrudgingly has taken on a summer internship in PA that was too good to pass up. She has promised to stop by meets when she can and cheer us on. As with most professional sports teams that have their assistant coaches poached after winning a championship in dominating fashion, the same can happen in summer rec swimming. Brian Regovich has taken on co head coaching duties for the Willowick Wildcats, with the intent on taking over the program from long time head coach Jack DiCello. It is a fantastic opportunity for Brian who grew up in the Willowick swim program.  We are saddened to see both Maria and Brian move on, but we are so excited for their future and consider ourselves very lucky to have had them involved in our team the last 5 seasons. The Stingers are looking to take on an additional coach/coaches depending on registration numbers. If you have someone in mind please have them reach out to Pat Conway ([email protected]) Applicants must have a competitive swim background, Saturday morning availability, July 27/28 available, and available for the Tuesday /Thursday evening practice. WSI or coaching experience not necessary but preferred.

If you know a business interested in sponsoring the team the form is attached to this email.

The second fundraiser of the season is here. Kurtz Brothers is back with a portion of all Stinger promo code sales being donated back to the team. Attached to this email is more information.

Team Suits are available again through Swimville. Team Suits are not required, however if you do purchase a new suit for the season from a different source we ask that it be the team colors black and yellow, in combination or a solid. Swimville's flyer is attached to this email.

Championships will be held at Mentor Civic Center July 27 and 28th. 8 and under swimmers will swim Saturday only instead of the historical norm of Sunday.

If you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me or another member of the Parent Board. Summer will be here before you know it. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
