Parent Volunteer Opportunities
There are plenty of volunteer opportunities for parents. The Team is in need of starters, timers, stroke and turn judges, runners, score keepers, ribbon distribution, pizza party coordinators, visiting team snack coordinators and photographers.
All home meets are run solely by volunteers. Your help is necessary as parents of a swim team member and is greatly appreciated! To volunteer, click on the events link in the top menu. Find the event at which you wish to volunteer and click the "Job Signup" button. Be sure to save the form after you check the box for the job you want!!

REFEREE
Before the meet the referee shall:
- See that all equipment necessary for proper conduct of the meet is in the proper place and condition
- See that the pool is properly marked and safe
- Assign officials to particular duties during the pre-meet meeting, reviewing the positions and responsibilities of each
During the meet the referee shall:
- Meet with coaches prior to each meet to review lane assignments and starting instruction
- Check that each swimmer takes the proper lane and signals the starter that the starting command may begin
- Order and event to start without delay when a contestant fails to report promptly
- Assure a fair start
- Notify competitors of infractions and resulting dissatisfactions
- See that the meet progresses rapidly and results are announced promptly
- Resolve a disagreement in one event prior to starting the next event
- Assure all competition is conducted according to rules
After the meet the referee shall check the scorers’ tabulation thus establishing the official score, which shall not be changed later.
STARTER
The Starter shall have responsibility for competitors after the referee signals for the starting command to begin until a fair start has been achieved.
During the meet, the Starter shall be responsible for carrying out the provisions of a fair start
STROKE JUDGE (one from each team required)
Stroke Judges shall:
- Examine the swimming strokes of competitors assigned to the lanes in the half of the pool nearest the side from which they are observing
- Signal by raising of hand overhead with open palm immediately upon discovering a violation of the legal swimming stroke, kick, or body position
- Report the violation to the referee immediately following the race
TURN JUDGE (one from each team required)
Turn Judges shall:
- Examine the last stroke prior to the turn, the turn, the exit from the turn until completion of the first full stroke
- Signal by raising of hand overhead with open palm immediately upon discovering a violation of the legal turn
- Report the violation to the referee immediately following the race
- Act as take-off and first stroke judge
TIMERS (2)
The number and duties of times who shall act officially in timing competition shall be determined in accordance with the timing procedure operative for the meet
SCORER
The Scorer shall:
- Record the official time, order of finish, contestants’ name, team and pointes scored for each event
- Maintain current cumulating team scores for the meet
SCRIBE
The scribe shall:
- Help the timer and record the finish times in accordance with the events.
- This is a unique function to the Edgewood Club and helps the meet run faster.
ANNOUNCER
The announcer shall:
- Work in conjunction with the Referee to ensure the meets say on schedule
- Announce the swimmers
- Announce the results of each meet
- Make any other necessary announcements during meet
RIBBON WRITERS
The Ribbon Writers shall:
- Prepare ribbons for each on meet
- Post on ribbon board
RUNNERS
Runners shall:
- Assist volunteers with various task during the meet
The 50/50 raffle coordinator shall:
- Sell tickets during the meet
- Pull winning ticket and present winner with 50% of ticket sales
VISITING TEAM SNACK COORDINATOR
Visiting team snack coordinator shall:
- Purchase snack for visiting team
- Distribute snacks at conclusion of meet
PIZZA PARTY COORDINATOR
The pizza party coordinator shall:
- Order pizza for each home meet
- Purchase appropriate supplies, plates, napkins, etc…
- Coordinate delivery and distribution of pizza to home team after meet
- Sing National Anthem
- Swim team members and non-team members welcome
